Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | When I first started lurking this board, I thought my next guitar would be a celebrity cc059. I have a cc057. But since reading all these posts, I've been biten by the bug for something else. And I was just wondering if I had the Ovation line sorted out.
At the bottom is Applause except for one of its ukes. I like ukes.
Next are the Celebrities and their Korean brothers the MOB (which as a snowboarder I like and ovation should come out with a white version!) and tangent and pinnacle.
Next are the American mades in the following order:
Elite Special
Elite Special T
Ballader Special
Ballader
Legend
Elite
Balladeer Custom
Elite Custom
Legend custom
then the specialty guitars like the Folklore and Viper,
then the Adamas line.
I tried the MOB and ballader and they're a definite step up from cc057. With MOB being cooler, but less of a solid feel. Got to try more of these ...
Anyway, the rest of these I've looked at on the online stores and this seems how it shakes out.
Did I sort them out right? Out of the american ovations it would put the ballader right dead center.

I never really understood ranking the guitars like that. Although we say Adamas is the top of the line, it can't be compared to a Balladeer or MOB because those are guitars designed and priced for different markets. There are those of us who prefer the sound of an Elite T or 2001 Collectors over the sound of the flagship Adamas. Price isn't really a guide either because I believe the street prices of an Elite T and an MOB are fairly close (someone else would not better, or a better example) but they are completely different guitars. |

Location: North Carolina | Beauty (best sounding guitar)is in the eye of the beholder. I played several different models of Ovations before I settled on my Balladeer Special. I tried more and less expensive. But settled on the sound I like. Though I am very interested in trying an Adamas. |

Location: Scotland | An4340, you have the guitars pretty much in the right order, except that the Custom Elite should be up among the Adamas/Custom Legend range. The wood top centre-hole/multi-hole range offer the same quality in different styles. Ultimately though it's academic, once you reach a certain price/quality point it becomes a matter of taste & that's without considering vintage. I have a '68 deluxe Balladeer, just about bottom of the range, which I play and enjoy as much as my top of the line Ovations. Just because the Adamas is supposedly "top of the line" not not make it "better" than other Ovations but it is certainly "different" You pays your money & takes your choice. |
