Location: Minneapolis MN | Hello all,
I just purchased my first Ovation last week, a CS245 12-string. This was at the absolute top of my budget for a different guitar, but once I played it I knew it was for me - immediately replacing a well-worn Takamine F385 12-string.
I've only been playing for about a year-and-a-half but work hard at it, and love the 12-string fullness for leading at church.
My question: Now I'm hooked on the bright sound of my Ovation, and I'd like to unload my Takamine and Washburn acoustics and get a 6-string lower-price used Ovation (likely from Ebay.) I have very large hands, and I'd like something with a wider neck, perhaps closer to the 1 7/8 of the CS245. Can you advise on models, old or new, that might approach this?
I've enjoyed reading all the comments posted here; it'd be great to someday have the skills and financial situation to justify a higher-end Ovation - but today is not that day....
Thanks in advance

Check out the Folklore model. It is a steel-string with a 1 7/8 inch nut, just like your 12-string.

I was thinking more along the lines of an older model, as we know Ovations are terrifically undervalued. My latest acquisition is an 1127 (which needs some refurbishment), and its neck seems a bit wider than my 1111. It's nowhere near 1 7/8" though. 12-strings & classicals would probably be the most common, in that width range. I trust some of Resident Archivists can shed some additional light on this subject. |

I couldn't find an Ovation model other than the Folk series (too expensive on my budget) with the neck width I wanted.
I purchased a Seagull S6+Cedar GT with a 1 13/16 neck width and it provides a nice contrast to the bright Ovation 12.
Thanks
