Location: NJ | New York Yankee's fielder Bernie Williams just released a CD of his guitar playing. I just heard a track off of it at a wedding this weekend.
Not BAD, Bernie!!!
It's on the GRP label and I guess it could be classified as (ugh!) "Smooth Jazz". There are also some pretty heavy-hitters of that genre playing on the CD with him (David Benoit, David Sanctious, Leland Sklar . . ). From what little I've heard it was pretty impressive!
I'd seen some pictures/video in the past where they briefly touched on his guitar playing, and in those he was playing Ovations. On his CD cover he appears to be playing a Fender and at recent promotional signing he was raffling off an autographed Fender guitar.
I hope he wasn't "bought" already.
Get on the stick Ovation! Don't let the exposure this guy could bring slip away!!

Location: 6 String Ranch | I just saw a show on him on YES tv. He was playing a woven grafite top whatever that model is. He sounded great!
On a separate note, Peter Jackobsen (golfer) got an Ovation this wednesday for playing in the Hartford GHO tournament for 20 years straight. He went on to win the tournament. I played with him one time and he's a great guy. Used to be in a band, Jake Trout and the Flounders. Payne Stewart played harp. If you get a chance to see Jake's show on the golf channel it's worth it. He usually plays a Tak that he got by trading golf clubs with Steven Stills. |

Good stuff, I always have liked watching Peter Jacobson in match play shows that he has played with some of the top golfers. He always seemed to play well and I was curious if he would contend in a tournament before he went to the seniors. He had a double whammy in the GHO, as he did publcity for Suzy Whalen. Great to see a senior win one, to hear that an Ovation was given is icing on the cake, if he can play it maybe somewhere along the line we will see a picture of him strumming it.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I just heard from a reliable source that Ovation has been dealing with Bernie Williams for some time now and that the Adamas W597-4G that he has been seen playing came from them. He does play a "Stratocustic" guitar from time to time, but his
favorite is still the Adamas. He recently contacted Ovation about getting another as a gift for fellow Yankee. Because it's supposed to be a gift from Bernie, I can't say any more than the intended recipient is a lefty and they have to build it for him.
They are also working on getting a picture on the Ovation website and for inclusion in the next Catalog. |
