"You mean you bought a plastic guitar?"

Although an fun anecdote, this comment, from what I'm guessing can be referred to as "jane Q public" steeps of a deeper problem.

I have remarked on this many times, and really don't know the answer, but for some reason, folks who are not in the know, go to this same place. Those that are already in-the-know, already own the guitar.

Let me phrase this as a question. HOw many folks here have bought an Ovation for whatever reason, only to later find out some really cool thing about it that you didn't know when you bought it.

Examples:
Viper - Didn't know the neck and bridge pickups were different numbers of windings.

UKII - didn't know it was a foam body with aluminum inards. Didn't know the switches were series/parallel vs single/dual. Didn't know the rails were non-magnetic.

I guess there was the first big observation I had that I didn't know they made other electrics besides the Breadwinner, Viper and Preacher until I started collecting them.

I can only think of one acoustic-esque reference that came up a few years ago.

"Ovation doesn't make an all wood guitar" they do, and it's the Viper, and it's not a solid-body, it's chambered.

Miles you are right on. I have often wondered why people are drawn to make comments about the Ovation guitars back. When that happens, I always say did you see the beautiful 5 piece neck? How about the ebony fingerboard? Or the inovative pinless bridge. I guess what I am trying to say is when someone looks close at an Ovation guitar, there are so many features that make them magical to see an hear.

I didn't know the neck on my USA Ultra was Urelite until many years after I bought it (I was young and dumb ... what can I say?). After all, I bought it for how it felt, played and sounded.

And one minute ago I found out there were a different number of windings on the pickups of my Viper (I am old and still dumb).

Speaking of 5-piece necks...

I remember a conversation awhile back where we all but sent a neck out to be tested because we thought the Adamas fancy neck "cover" was wood and found out it was hi-tech foam.

By the way, my only reason to try and bring this stuff out, is that it has to do with getting the word out. Back in the day, at least most salepeople knew the real deal and could correct us or educate us in the store. That is no longer the case, so other than this site, the Ovation site and the old school dealers if they are left... This is the only way to spread the word on the really cool stuff.
