We fly to Anchorage, then leave from Seward, and end up in Vancouver, flying back from there next Wednesday. Not taking a guitar.... Our first vacation on a cruise ship and anything bigger since we've been married than heading to the coast or out camping somewhere or to visit relatives in FLA. We'll be leaving high temperatures of 100+ to highs in the upper 60s!! Seems like I remember some OFC members being from the 49th state, or in Vancouver.... Not sure what kind of music offerings are on the cruise, probably to much to ask for an open mic night with an Ovation there to play...

That is one thing that always amazed me when I am out at sea. The sky will never look so clear at night, and the stars so bright, too many to even begin to count. Enjoy your cruise, just make sure it doesn't stretch into a nine month cruise like mine did.

Looks like Nils and I were in Alaska at the same time, allthough I was not out fishing in Kodiak, just wandering around lost on a cruise ship.... We had a great trip, our first cruise and our first visit to Alaska. The scenery and ports-of-call were fantastic. We had sunshine every day (except when we were out on open sea). The cruise ship was cool, but kinda over the top, it was the Carnival Spirit. I actually won around $500.00 playing roulette, that's after I was ahead around $800.00, then proceeded to loose the last night.... I didn't get out to see stars like I was hoping (it got chilly late at night and overcast one night and the fact that I was doing my part to keep some bartenders busy didn't help my star gazing~~~) allthough the moon and mars were spectacular rising over the water. We went on the White Pass & Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad in Sitka, spectacular views! The guide was talking about what all different kind of trees we were seeing and it hit me (duh!) that those were Sitka Spruce trees that a lot of our guitar tops are made of!! A friend of ours brought her Yamaha travel guitar and we sat out on the fan-tail deck the last evening swapping the guitar and singing and strumming. The Yamaha was actually an OK little guitar - very "ukelele" sounding, but the neck and action were nice. She bought it strictly to take on airline trips as it fits in the overhead bins. I'm ready to play my Legend (have band rehearsal tonight), that's the one thing I missed while up there. Will definately make the trip to Alaska again some time, I really enjoyed Ketchikan - didn't get to stay in Vancouver, but would like to vacation there sometime!!! ciao

My computer has been in the shop for a few days getting worked on, it wouldn't show us the pictures on the CD's we had made of our trip. Turned out the CD ROM had crapped out. Fixed now. We're going back to Kodiak in 2005 for my 40th class reunion. Nils
