Location: New Jersey | any one here know about the Patriot model Ovation? I have a chance to buy a new one, been in the dealers back room in its box since it was bought. Any idea of its worth? Thanks. |

Location: Scotland | Been in a store room, unplayed since 1976? Are you sure? The original Patriot came out in '76 to commemorate the bi-centennial. The recent guitars with the flag finish are completely different and were not called "Patriot" by Ovation. This term seems to have been coined by ebay sellers. |

Location: New Jersey | yes, a Patriot. Its been stored by the dealer since he bought it in '76. Yes, it has a flag and drum and *1776*1976* on the lower right bout. It says Patriot on the label inside, and is #0148 of 1976. |

Location: Scotland | Wow, very cool find. Value of these seems to be higher compared to Legends of the same era but varies quite a lot. (the Patriot is essentially a Legend with a nutmeg finish & the flag & drum stencil) I've seen them sell on ebay for as little $400 and as much as a grand. I think they were mostly issued as acoustic only, though I've seen a handful with electronics. The electro versions might be worth a little more to a player. Definately a cool guitar & worth having. Keep us posted. |

Location: SoCal | It also had the new "A" bracing pattern. The Custom Legend came out about the same time and it introduced the "A" bracing to the Legend line. In the early 1980's the regular Legend also got this pattern. |

Location: Chicago | It IS a great find. I have 5 Ovations and my Patriot (#201) is by far my favorite, booming bass, nice neck and looks so cool. Great for recording. I saw another one in a small music store in Montmarte, Paris and wanted to buy it right on the spot, but the guy wouldn't part with it. |

Location: Scotland | Gruhn's in Nashville have one in right now, asking a grand. Surprising it's in there as Gruhn has a pathological hatred of Ovations, or for that matter anything less than 35+ years old that doesn't have Martin, Gibson, fender or Gretsch on the headstock & 5 figures on the ticket. |

Gruhn has been around too long, and now only thinks about the "value" of an instrument. He started out thinking about quality and rarity and collectibility and value, and then created the scarcity so he could get rich. To me, some of the "rare instrument" dealers have the stink of the emu promoters. Let them perish as they try to rip each other off and the rest of us keep our common sense and buy old Ovations at bargain prices.
