Hello Ovation 12 string lovers,

Just got my 1866-4 Legend 12 string back from the Mothership today where I sent it to have the neck reset and an external battery holder installed and.....PERFECT!!!
The neck plays like budda! Kim and the crew at the factory are professional and true craftsmen!!
The job is flawless I swear you can't even tell the neck was ever removed - they set everything back to factory specs. dressed the frets and installed new strings now the guitar which use to be a CHORE to play (bloody fingers & aching digits) is now once again a JOY to play! and the external battery holder looks like it came originally that way. I'm extremly happy with the outcome and the price was very reasonable also.
I also had some pearloid tuner buttons installed (Nice!) and I got a GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell truss rod cover to also dress-up the peghead!!

To Kim and the Crew: GREAT JOB!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! - Mike

Mike, Kim and the crew are the best. They brought my old Custom Balladeer back from the dead, and now it is one of the best sounding Ovations I have heard. Great to hear your guitar is back, and you will be jammin!

Mike;

Can you forward to me the "specs" on those gold cover screws (and maybe where you ordered them from)?

I wanted to get some for my CBalladeer to match the tuners.
thx.

Truss rod cover screws are #2 x 3/8 oval head phillips. Sometime also called Phillister (or Filister) head screws. Dave

Mike- As another "expectant" owner in the "R&R" (Restoration and Repair) Waiting Room, I'm wondering how Kim & The Crew did on your estimated timeframe for the work, and the return trip from The Mothership. I'm very much looking forth to my 1127's restoration, with great anticipation. Thanks!

I also have joined the ranks of the R&R Club. Yesterday I sent my 68 Deluxe Balladeer off to Ovation for a neck reset, top refinish, new "old style" bridge, and who knows what else.

If this costs a lot and my wife is pissed, Standing O, this is your fault.

So, Paul, should we be prepared to pass out cigars at the arrival of our critters? And, as for marital harmony, delicately traversing on the "need to know" tightrope, is essentially a function of practice, not recommended for the faint-of-heart, or lacking basic subterfuge & redirection skills, i.e., "Now Mister, don't be changing the subject!" (oh, shoot me...now).

Mike,

Just out of curiousity, how much did the neck reset cost? I am in need of the same on my CS 12 string?

Hello again Ovation 12 string lovers,

Nils - The only two before pics I have are in the member's area-but if you look at pic #2 (slight side view) you'll notice that the neck is perfectly straight with no angle which causes the strings to be very high at the frets over the soundboard - As far as after pics I'll posts some as soon as I install my GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover which btw I like very much!!!
................
Cliff - I'm shore glad that Dave knew the "specs" for the screws because I sure didn't (Thanks Dave)
I got the screws at Pecknell music in Greenville,S.C. (good price too-10 cents apeice)but last night I got them out to mount the cover and they are to BIG!!!DAMN!! er I mean DANG!! :D
I could slightly enlarge the holes but I don't think it would look right-If you would like to try 3 or 4 email me your address-they aren't that big but I didn't want to "alter" my GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover!!
................
Seesquare (aka dictionary breath) - Kim said 10 days to 2 weeks!! It was exactly 16 days!(He was pretty close) I was getting a bit antsy after about 10 days but I knew it was in good hands and that you can't rush perfection (They probably had some others to work on too besides mine :D )I was also anxious to get my GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover!!
................
Norsey - price could range between $150 to $200 for just the neck reset alone depending I guess on what all they have to do but Kim can fax you a quote after he's seen the guitar! With what I had done the price was very reasonable and I also got a GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover to boot!!! :D
.................

Hey Dave,

I've got the right size now!! (#2's x 3/8" gold plated) The ones I got from Pecknell music are #4's but at the time I bought them I didn't yet have the truss rod cover (GEN-U-WINE Glen Campbell signature by the way!!) and the screws "looked" small enough but tonight after work I rushed across town to Phil's music and got there right at closing (I was guilty of doing the same thing that I get ill at "last minute customers" for when they show-up at the door at closing time where I work) but the guy behind the counter (Ron) was real nice and knew just what I needed! Ron went in the back and brought out a sectional plastic box full of different size screws and with a little digging came up with a small baggie of #2 x 3/8" gold plated screws!!(about 25 screws)(My heart was overjoyed!!! ) Ron asked how many I needed and I said if the price was right I'd take the whole bag (greed!) but after he firmly told me that I coudn't get them all I settled for 10 @ 20 cents apiece. As I gladly paid him I told him what they were for and that I was a member of the OFC and that I knew of others with the need for the hard to find gold screws he said that he WAS an Ovation dealer (although I saw only ONE used Applause multi-hole guitar in a whole sea of Gibsons,Taylors,Martins,Fenders, etc) and for me to call him tomorrow and he'd give me a price in bulk! So stay tuned gold screw junkies and if his bulk price is nice I'll pick us up a few :D
(operators are standing by!!)

All this golden screw stuff reminds me of a story about a baby that was born with a golden screw in his belly button. He wondered about why it was there all his life. Finally when he was grown he went to see a holy man on top of a mountain. The holy man told him to lay on his back on top of a particular mountain at a certain time & say an incantation. He did, & right afterwards a cloud formed overhead & a giant golden screwdriver came out of the sky & unscrewed the golden screw from his belly button.

When he stood back up his ass fell off.

Sorry, I couldn't help it...

Nils
