I'm not very knowlegdeable about Ovation guitars, but have played a few at some music stores.I also don't have a lot of money to spend on a new acoustic/electric guitar.About as deep as I'm able to go much deeper than maybe a cc026,or cc057.I have played some of each, and thought they were pretty nice(though I didn't try them through an amp). The cc057 seems to come with a built-in tuner. These are made in Korea?I have also seen the Applause line of Ovations.Where are those made, and what are the differences?

Thanks ,Jon Neet

Welcome aboard, Jon. Even though there are people here who can give you much more complete answers, I'll start the ball rolling.
The Celebrity series is made in Korea. They don't carry the lifetime guarantee that the American made instruments have, although one of the virtues of both Korean-made and American-made Ovations is that they are very sturdy instruments.
Somebody else will have to fill you in on the Applause line; it's Korean-made, too.
A brief review of the CC057 model based on owning one for a little over a year. (I also have an American-made Legend.) I like the Celebrity. Although some argue that the super-shallow bowl doesn't put out as much sound or as much bass as a medium or deep bowl, I can still get enough volume to play acoustic by myself or with another guitarist. The onboard electronics seem pretty good, although I seldom hook the guitar up to an amplifier and use the electronics chiefly for recording. I find that the shape and finish of the neck make for very easy playing.
Bottom line: If I were buying a guitar that I was going to play in medium to large halls without amplification, I'd probably want an older model American-made deep bowl. If I wanted a guitar as a collector's item, I'd be searching E-bay for a good deal on one of the American-made models. But for the money, you can get a lot of enjoyment and make very acceptable music with a Celebrity.
Peace,
John

Hi Jon,

All of the guitars you mentioned are made in Korea, the Applauses as well as the Celebritys. There is also a CC01 Celebrity, with a deep bowl and no pickup. The top level Applause AA48 has the Adamas sound hole design, but the AA28 appears similar to the CC026.

I believe the bowls are made in the U.S., but the guitar is assembled in Korea.

I just bought a CC01 Celebrity myself and like it better than the AA48 and CC026---the deep bowl has a better sound to me than the shallow of the AA48 and the mid of the CC026. No pickup was no issue for me---I intend to use it as a travel guitar, and it was a plus in my eyes.

Welcome to the board. If you find a guitar that you can afford, and it sounds good to you, don't worry about the country that built it. It is infinitaly better to have a good sounding Korean guitar, than no guitar at all. Then you can develop your talent and if you reach some plateau, bid on those Ebay guitars that are, at this time, super deals. Or, if you are flush with cash, buy a new American made Ovation collector's or such that are top quality. Starting somewhere is where it all starts.

Bailey (I started playing good Jap guitars in the 70's, remember Yamaha, Alvarez Yaira, Yamaki, because I could buy one for myself and two for my sons compared to a Martin?)

Many of the Celeb line and the USA line share not only the Bowls, but the pre-amps too I believe. I'm not sure about necks. The Celeb is a great entry-level Ovation. There are older Made in USA line Ovations that can be had at a good price. Others can maybe give you ideas of models to look for as I'm not primarily an acoustic player.

A couple of corrections to my note above....I see that the model designations for the Applause guitars are AE28 and AE48, NOT AA...I presume that AE stands for "acoustic-electric", which they are. AA designates the models without pickups.

Also, the Ovation website says that the CC026 is a deep-bowl guitar. I have played one, and I don't remember it being as deep as my CC01, but I presume Ovation should KNOW(but they do say the CC01 has a pickup, which it DOESN'T).

If you're looking for a quality ovation at a decent price, I'd recommend the e-bay route. I've picked up a 1119 Custom Legend and a 93 collectors for $550 each. Good luck...
