A local music store has an 'ovation' guitar on consignment, but the label is missing; it is a super-shallow bowl, electric, cut away, with the multiple sound holes, sunburst finish, gold 'ovation' tuners, bound finger board, with a curved base; my best guess is a custom celebrity(?), but i really don't know; i didn't have my glasses with me to read the serial number and the store owner didn't know; anyone care to venture a guess?

It's a Celebrity Deluxe, no idea of the model number.

hi paul, thank you for the information; i am assuming then that this particular guitar was made in korea, or japan, or mexico maybe? i will obtain the serial number to send to ovation if that will help; the owner wants $375 for this guitar, with no case; it has no scrathces or fret wear but i must admit these little guitars just seem cheap to me; i remember when all ovations were usa made, and had 'heart', so to speak...

You can look up serial #'s on the Ovation website. If I remember correctly,6 numbers mean made in USA ,7 numbers are Korean.

The only Jap made Ovation acoustics were the original Pinnacle series. The current Celebs are Korean. Older USA guitars such as a 1612 Custom Balladeer with a case can be had on Ebay for around the same price as he's asking for the Celeb.

It could be a 1868-1. Legend six string.
What kind of top does it have?

hello cms-man, the top is the typical dark sunburst; i thought it might have been a usa ovation because the end of the bound finger board wasn't straight across but was 'curved', if you understand that description; but the gold plated tuners just say 'ovation', not schaller or any other description, but i admit i am not as familiar with all ovations gold plated tuners, so i wasn't sure; it's probably a celebrity deluxe 'cause it sure didn't "feel" like a legend, and it doesn't have a 5-piece neck...

dave, this particular guitar is on consignment in the Appalachian Music shop in boone, north carolina; it has multiple sound holes, so it couldn't be a legend...

My guess is that it is a Celebrity Deluxe. I think the tuners are PING brand that are stamped "Ovation". How many frets does it have? That would identify it for sure. Dave

Everybody here is guessing (and doing a damned good job of it), but the only way to know for certain what this guitar is, is to either get the model number off of it or to see a picture.

Ok, I have a correction and a confirmation; the finish was black, not sunburst;(the headstock, face, and bridge are all black),the serial number is 1045955, the electronics are OP24+, and there is no fret wear at all; however, there are two small stress cracks in the finish on the face of the guitar directly under the end of the fingerboard...i still wonder if $375 is worth it, with only a gig bag...

For $200 more you can buy a real USA Ovation Elite, spotless condition, 5 piece neck, solid wood top, plus Ovation hardshell case. If it were me .....

$375 definitely sounds high for this to me. I'd keep looking.....
