I was checking out the iDea on Musicians Friend. See for yourself.

To me this looks like a "dummy" guitar used to show the pre-amp. However, you'd think that you could write off one real guitar in order to avoid a pic like above being seen by thousands.

Yak...I'm colour blind and have absolutely no eye for detail. So can you tell me what it is I'm supposed to be seeing?

Are you talking about the little paint-looking stuff at the edge of the bridge?
I thought that they painted the top before they put on the bridge.

I have no idea what is going on with that, but that is the new iDea CC54i guitar...
Or it looks like one.

Here is the link...

Oh, here is another photo from MF of the iDea... No paint on the bridge... So I still don't know.

This photo is from the listing for the Retrofit Package.

the blue smudges appear to be reflections from a light source. it can be seen under the strings and beyond also. the bridge area appears suspect tho.

OH! I didn't even see that...

[Refer to my Color-Blind thread... But I'm really just blind-as-a-bat with thick glasses]

Well, the finish on the inside of the vent hole looks....what is that? Corrosion? Rust?

Looks to me like the base material was white and the silver paint didn't reach the cover of the vent hole completely.

Yer'all hangin' on too-tight. How does it sound & function may be a better query. A paint smudge, on a $2K axe; what's the irritable-bowel factor on that one?!

I do think that paint smudge is exactly the sort of thing Ovation needs to tighten up.

At this moment, there is a "Taylor thread" about two threads down the list. Say what you will about Taylor, their fit and finish is better than Ovation's.

I think the point (to me) is that little things mean a lot and it would have taken someone 30 seconds in photoshop to fix up the glob of goo on the bridge and trim out the sound hole. I'm no marketing expert but I do know that you only get one chance to make a first impression. The preamp may indeed be stellar, but this photo does not say that to me.

OK, point taken. I'm not usually looking at anything but the fretboard, when I'm playing.
I understand the first impression thing, only too well.
Gotta buy some better deodorant, I suppose.......

Bingo.

When I look at my Koala, the little things that stand between it and a "10" on the fit and finish scale are really quite minor. Things like a slightly uneven glob of overspray just inside the sound hole, sloppy finish on the inside of the slothead slots, failure to ease the sharp edge of the binding, a bit of a bump on the neck as it curves into the heal.

These are things that, in total, might have added 15 minutes to the total production time on the guitar.

Are they "fatal" flaws? No. And to be clear I sold my Taylor 714 a year after I bought the Koala because I never played the Taylor anymore.

But those things are all "unforced errors". There is just no excuse for letting product out the door like that.
