| They seem to last forever - but just to brighten it up a little you should be thinking of changing them now. They deteriorate so slowly that you think they haven't changed at all, but they have. A new set now should sound a lot livelier than you might expect.
What brand are they? |

- PhoBro & Silk 610LM J.Pearse, - 012/053
- Silk&steel Ernie Ball extra soft bronze, - 010/050
still missing Adamas 4848 silk&steel, 011/051.
I found that on textured Adamas and also on some wooden box they sound and play nicely with a warm tone, delivering also more brightness then expected and an overall round sound. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | They start to sound deader than when you put them on, is one way to tell when they need to be replaced. The other is that the G and D will start to get flat spots from the frets. |

I was kinda sounding too bright with Phos. Bronze. So bright it sounded thin. S&S warmed it up and filled out the sound nicely.
I have also been using them 6751LX
I don't think they sound deader at least to me.
I can't see any flat spots.
They really lasting a long time. |

Location: Michigan | Ok I am a novice string person. I started playing in the early 80s in college. Taught by my roomate who had the coolest guitar I had ever seen (sunburst O 12 string). When I got my first guitar the guy at the store told me Martin Marquis are the only way to go. I have used them since. After 10 years off I picked up my legend and I am back at it a couple of hours a day and having a ball. I recently picked up a set of Martin Silk/steel strings. At first they sounded muddy and took them off and put on the old phospher bronze. I was used to the bright sound and without a capo they sounded perfect. What I have noticed since I got the Ovation is that since it is so much larger/longer than my old Rokkomman OOO martin copy, that the strings are much tighter. I have adjusted to it pretty much but noticed that the notes played capo at the third fret and up have very little sustain with the phospher bronze. The silk/ steel seem to be a totally different story. Capo to the 3rd fret and the sustain is perfect for what I play. Is this normal or my imagination. I will be first to admit I am no great player and but I do notice that if I capo the phospher bronze I lose something while the silk/steel can sustain the note much longer. Am I mad? Stupid or just somewhere in between? :) Anyway I am giving the silk/steel another try. PS, I do not use a pick, gave it up after I lost my last one 20 years ago. :) |

Location: Michigan | I have no idea with that model Joe. I can tell you it is very different sound with a deep bowl legend. The bass strings seem deeper and of course not nearly as bright. I would try a set and give yourself a week or two to get used to the different sound. You may like it or not. I would say it is personal preference. I do like the bright sound of the phospher bronze (probably because that is what I was used to) but I am warming up to the silk/steel. |

Location: NW of Philadelphia | I liked the sound of year old dead factory 12's. Its why I bought it. The new strings sound too bright to me. I'm looking for something to mellow it back.
But then, I want to replace my OP-Pro with a OP-24+ (like in my CC257) in my 1868T. Just call me stupid. |

Unfortunately, none of my guitars have the OP-24+ nowadays :( |
