I got an Ultra 1527 on eBay and now I'm learning why its best to play it before you buy it. It looks good and plays fine for my fumblings.

I couldn't get the electronics to work so I carefully took it apart only to find the wires to the pick-up sometime long ago had been ripped off and then wrapped back on and stuck together with gummy, black electrical tape.

I soldered them back on as best I could. Now sound comes through, sort of. It breaks up and it seems a string or two just won't sound at all.

Where can I get a replacement for the pick-up? Other than eBay? Is it possible to up-grade to a better system or even worth it? I figure there has to be at least a better battery set-up than the one stuck back up inside.

It sounds like the pickup is probably shot. I suggest contacting Kim Keller at the Ovation service department and seeing what he can do for you.

Keep the glory coming down in Taiwan!
