I am trying to get my hands on an LX to try out so I foolishly drove over to my local Guitar Center during my lunch hour. Of course, the store had the usual handfull of celebrities and one 12 string legend hanging on the wall. When I asked the salesman about the "LX', he looked at me like I owed him money. He had no freakin' idea what I was talking about! Like I said, I should have known better. I'll try some other stores this week in search of an LX!

They had a bunch of Ovations including a 30th CL & a few LX's. A salesman came over & instead of trying to sell me a Taylor as they usually do, he actually started giving it the hard-sell on the LX, had all the facts right & actually sounded like he meant it.

I stopped in a couple weeks ago (to follow up on a vist two weeks PRIOR to that one) but it still hadn't come in yet. He took my card and was supposed to call me, but as of yet, hadn't heard anything (albeit, a guitar pick-shaped business card is easily lost). Anyway, they MIGHT have (or had) one. Give 'em a call. The question of LX availabilty was a hot topic of conversation on the Q&A. The simple truth: Supply & Demand. The majority (if not ALL) of Ovation's production is (and has been) the LX. They can't make them fast enough and have reached backorder situations in some cases. Frank revealed that they are in the process of augmenting their production staff with a goal of increasing production by 30%. That's a SIGNIFICANT increase in production!! The term "Factory" is pretty much a mis-nomer. There is a physical "factory", but by NO means is it a conveyor belt, assembly line situation. There is a TREMENDOUS amount of hands-on detailed work involved . . . it's efficient as HELL . . but by no means are there thousands (or even hundreds) of units flying out of the door every day. If there were, you wouldn't want the resultant instrument. Ovation USA's in a good position right now. They've developed an instrument that people seem to want . . . and (for right now) can't fill the orders fast enough. Not a bad position to be in (nowadays) AT ALL!! Be patient, . . . they're a-comin' !!

Not having played one, it's hard to judge, but the features that these guitars have may go a long way in selling Ovations to the more "traditional" brands' customers. I'm curious to see how much of a difference the new bracing makes. As far as I'm concerned, I'm in no big rush to do anything. I'm just weighing some options at this point. BTW. I was in there a couple weeks ago for dinner, but they didn't have a liquor license yet, and they didn't quite have their service together either. But it looks like it would be a great place to play. That place was awesome years ago when it was the side street pub. Lots of bands playin. -Johnny

The previous owner owed money for taxes, so they are holding up the license until it's paid. Fortunatelly, my friends leased the place with a liquor license, so for now they are not paying the rent. As for the service issue, they are getting it together now but I agree, they were all screwed up there at first. They have two other very sucessful places, so I'm sure that they will be fine.
