Gents,
I have put a couple of pictures of my new (2003) FD14 Folklore Deluxe in my album (George). Everything I have heard via OFC about this guitar has proven to be true and to say I am delighted with it would be a huge understatement. Once again Thanks to Paul Moody for alerting me to the availability of this magnificent instrument. Ovation has hit a homer with this baby! The extra nut width is appreciated by my old fat fingers and I fell right into some finger patterns that I've avoided on some of the newer guitars. My heart is blessed. Thanks once again guys!

Tony,
I'll be looking forward to your comments about the FD14 after you play it. Or you may already have done so. It was a new and very pleasant experience for me for sure. :)

The Folklore FD-14 is one great sounding guitar. I have a good friend that has one, and I love to go over there and play it. To bad I can't get the guitar from him. It's a winner! ;)

At the risk of sounding a bit snobbish (forgive me in advance!), as a 30 year OVATION veteran I've pretty much played them all - and the FD-14 I scored last fall is without a doubt the finest sounding A/E I've ever plugged in, and it plays like a dream...
If you ever get the chance, pawn your left foot or liquidate your 401k (or whatever it takes) to own one of these incredible deep bowl, slot-heads!
I'm way happy that Tony's got one on the way...a most deserving Gent' to be sure! :D
All the Best, Y'all~

Al delivered...it is an amazing instrument. Replaced my 1619 Custom Legend on the wall. Think I'll put my phones on hold tomorrow :D

However, heck of a time to put a thick leather Levy's strap on...got it on but there must be a better way and still have a quality strap - any ideas?

Tony, this is one of the reasons I dislike endpin jacks. John Pearse does a leather strap desined to fit on oversize buttons

Greetings Sam!
It's great to see you here onthe OFC site! I assume you have gotten your Elite LX right? We'd all like to hear your thoughts on its performance after you take it out on a post production test hop! Please put pictures in the Member Access album section when you get a chance.
Chaps, I have recommended Sam install Elixer Lights on his Elite LX, any comments before he goes out and buys strings?

Paul T.,

Thanks for the heads up on the guitar straps which will accomodate the endpin jack. I've got to admit, when I first got the guitar I didn't know there was such a thing as a jack in the endpin and I almost went nuts looking for a place to plug it in ! Ha !

George :)

Oh, I can't believe I'm doing this... ;)

Next time you see one of these on ebay (or wherever), would you let me know?

Reasonably speaking, what should one of them go for?

Thanks folks!

From what I recall, the last eBay (4/04)was $760 plus s&H. That was only because I didn't get email back from the seller so backed out. I was prepared to pay at least up to $900 and I had never seen one - GAS based only on what Dave (standingovation) and several others had said about it.

Fortunately for me, Al had a demo for $800. Sold through dealers last year for about $1,300 - $1,400. Believe Vintage/Elderly had one for about $1,400. No longer available but here is their listing:

http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/FD14.htm

Limited edition, 50 made and as I understand - at least 25 disappeared to Far East and Europe.

After playing it, I wouldn't sell mine for less than $1,500. IMHO, only reason George and I got ours for around $800 was that until you play it, you don't understand why you NEED it.

So, if one becomes available, it isn't what you want to pay - more like what you can pay.

Tony,

Thanks for the info. Not only am I getting back into my guitars, I'm learning lots!

I guess my FD14 will have to wait 'til I'm old (too late! :0 ) and rich (yeah, right  ).

Here's a question. Will Ovation's custom shop build a FD14 Folklore Deluxe?

I suppose it's possible.. They seem to build custom orders. as to what they are able to do on something they don't normally stock..I 'm not sure how that works. I think that would classify as a custom order. Check with your dealer..or Al could answer questions concerning this sort of thing. One things for sure...Ovation Does Good Work on anything they Build.

Ovation will basically build anything you are willing to pay for. Several OFC members have had custom orders or modifications. It's not cheap, but still way underpriced for the quality work they do. You not be disappointed.

I would also keep your eye on ebay. A few FD14's have already shown up this year. I'm pretty sure they all ended going to OFC members. If you are patient, you'll find one. Trust me, it will be worth the wait.

Dave (standingovation) asked me to compare (as an acoustic since different electronics) the Folklore Deluxe FD-14 with the 30th Anniv Custom Legend - this is how I responded:

What is amazing is that I am enjoying both models equally...sometimes playing a song on one, then replaying it on the other. Both have a different "voice." As an instrument, both slightly different but equal (2pts extra for the CL due to abalone & OP-Pro.) As an acoustic, If I compared them without any other consideration but sound and playability - slight edge to FD-14! It sounds like what I would want an acoustic to sound like. Even without 30 years of mellowing. Imagine what it will sound like in a couple of years.

Compared with my 1619, no question as to the superiority of the FD.

Actually asked Kim K. if this was an early version of the LX bowl - no. It is noticably lighter in weight. Didn't think there would be that much difference in wt. just because of the electronics.

Side by side...heck with comparison - would be fun to hear the two being played together.

Hi George

Will do on posting the pictures....The LX Elite is an outstanding instrument. I am very pleased with it...neck is fast and action is low like I like. I haven't touched my Martin since the LX arrived. I will give the Elixer Lites a try. Have always used SP lites on Martin.

My Ovation round hole classical is being shipped today. They replaced the entire sound board and preamp basically should be like a new guitar.
