Is this the love child Bill never told us about or did they swap labels at the nursery?

At least put all the strings on it man! I think it's a Winston with an attitude.

Looking at the "seam" that goes across it, it looks like someone took the bottom of an Ovation brochure or manual, spliced it together with a bigger piece of the same, and cut it into a round "Label".

Who is zooming who here?
It's interesting when someone says they don't know much about guitars then goes on to say they have ehe expertice to know that this is a "rare" one.

Good eye Cliff.I did email the Seller with this:

Randy,
That is not an Ovation.
It looks like the "label" is two piece cut from a magazine. You can see the rectangle in the upper left corner.

If you have any questions or concerns about Ovation guitars I would suggest you visit the OvationFanClub.com website. Myself and others will gladly assist and help you out any way we can.

Mike W

Paul and Dave - please don't go pissin off the new guy if he shows up!

I did stop short of telling him that if he stuck a Taylor ad in there and put in the high end room at GC someone might even buy it!

Made by Ovation? since when did Ovation have a factory in Tijuana run by junkies?

Bill, you're pretty close. Latin-American Cuatro instruments have 4 courses, Tres have 3. It's probably a cheap & nasty tourist-grade Bajo Quinto, 10 strings in 5 courses. Mexican rather than Puerto-Rican.

I think the "label" may be chopped out of a Matrix or Applause catalog or something. Damn those Mexicans.

I think a 'cuarto' is a container for Puerto Rican rum, which may have something to do with the origins of this guitar.

There must be somebody in Yanni's band who can play it proficiently. He has had some amazing South American stringmeisters who can honk on ethnic instruments.

Does Yanni's music heal the effect of a cuarto of Puerto Rican rum?

Looks a lot like the 12 string Gibson sunburst I bought in San Diego that turned out was a Mexican copy, had a poisonous fret board wood that was dangerous to work on. After I got sick of it, Bill, owner of Poway Music, and I turned it into an acoustic bass because it had a gigantic body and a very strong neck, not strong enough as we couldn't get it to stay in tune. Others perfected our idea and acoustic basses are now seen frequently. We were inspired by the guitarron, and wanted to make one for country bands.

about 10 years ago back when he was really popular, I saw a few interviews with Yanni and some of the people that went to his concerts. Many thought that his music had healing powers. (I really hate those new age crystal grubbing freaks) anyway, I was at a local t shirt place and they had a Yanni tour T shirt. I bought it and when people would ask me why I had on a Yanni shirt my reply would be "yanni's music HEALS" The looks they gave me after that were funny as hell. Most people did not know if I was serious or not....I have to find that shirt and wear it again.

QB]

It means "four" I may have the spelling wrong but South America guitars with four string courses are all called "Cuatro" Three course instruments are known as "Tres" The Mexicans have 5 & 6 double course guitars called Bajo quinto & sexto.

Two summers ago I took a non-credit course at Tarrant County College for Mariachi music. I got to take home and practice on a "vihuela" - basically a small guitar with just the bottom 5 strings. I never quite got the hang of it and stuck with the six string. Found my fingers constantly reaching up for the sixth string and that messed me up! I asked our professor (he is a Mariachi expert and plays Fridays and Saturdays at Papasito's and plays on old Ovation deep bowl he owns - he likes it because it projects the most!!!) about a "bajo sexto" as I thought it'd be cool to play one of those. He explained that the "bajo sexto" is not a Mariachi instrument but a "Norteño" instrument....

Paul T: I know what 'four' is in Spanish, but the mood of the moment caused me to lapse into irreverent humor related to the PR reference. It may have been a lapse of humor in more ways than one.....

If it's any consolation Paul(B), . . . I "got it". ;)

btw: everyone knows that PuertoRican rum should ONLY be used for cleaning brushes, and that the absolute BEST rum comes from the Myers Plantation on Jamaica!

Being a Tequila drinker Rum-based "humour" tends to miss me completely.
