My 2000 Collectors still has the smell.

Same thing as old Volkswagens. No matter how long they've been around, they still have that unique VW smell.

My '89 Elite has a smell. Don't know if it's *the* smell, but it do smell good. 'Course, you have to be pretty darned close to the epaulets to smell it. I wonder if there's a way to bring it out more...maybe put my hand in the back with some sandpaper and scuff up the underside of the top and braces? Sure, yeah, that's the ticket! (No, I won't be doing that).

On the VW front...I had a 73 SuperBeetle in high school and it had that VW smell (I always thought of it as a combination of warm vinyl and hot oil) until a friend who couldn't hold his Kessler's decided to deposit the contents of his stomach in the passenger door map pocket. Never smelled the same again. Wound up selling it after buying a replacement (yes, that's right, a second 73 Super!). Ahhh, the stories I could tell about those bugs....

Fender amps too... they have "that certain smell" especially after they get warmed up and toasty.

If you're getting into smells the best is the moldy case smell from a 30/40/50's making you wonder if it's an original Les Paul or 335 or maple neck strat or whatever.

Ovations have a certain smell and it's good. I must say though that the new LX has a smell I don't like at all. I think it may come from the glue in the case. Very synthetic and industrial smell. Anyone else experienced this or is it just me?

Hrmm, I haven't noticed a synthetic smell to any of the newer O's I've played at the local GC. But, then I'm always overwhelmed by the smell of pine or whatever it is they line the acoustic room with to give it that faux log-cabin look.

My absolute favorite smell, though, *is* industrial...I love the smell of a machine shop/foundry/factory...oil, metal, that odor oxy-acetylene makes, or plasma arc welders...mmmmm. I think it's because my dad used to take me up to the shop a lot when I was young.

Mammaries, light the coroners of my mime.

My O's DO have that nice smell also, unfortunately I can't enjoy it unless I have at least two weekends "off" and the previous dose of "gig schtank" has dissipated . . .

My SlotHead has a very distinct scent to it . . . very unlike other O's, but after taking a healthy "hit" off of the Slot at the Factory, it seems to be something common amongst Slots (and perhaps other very early Adamases, I don't know). Must be a combination of the carbon and the exotic woods in the eppaulets. Can't place it but it's very distinct. It almost smells like a nicely used humidor . . .

Know whatcha mean about the VW smell. Whenever I see someone parking one, I always ask if I could just poke my head in and "take a whiff". Most fellow VW enthusiasts will know what you mean and will gladly oblige. It's almost like an Olfactory Time Machine . . . one whiff and it all comes pouring back into your brain . . . (I've had a '66, a '70 and a '74 - all Type I's - didn't like SuperBeetles). If it were possible to bottle that smell, I'd BUY it!!!

My nineteen year old daughter just bought an old BMW. She said one of the main reasons she bought it was that ". . it smells like the old "Bug" that you used to drive me to pre-school in . ."

ah, . . . those whacky Germans . . .

Tim, there is a certain air about you...

Did you hear the one about the Nudist Protester at the Womens' Lib Conference and the Scotsman Librarian restocking the top shelves?

They were both brought in for airing their differences!

... maybe that explains the "wrinkled nose syndrome" of people whom I pass.... :(

...and to make it worse, I'm part Scot; a Campbell.... who likes the Pipes AND the banjo!

woe is I!

I would think the answer Al would give would be YES!! I noticed when my 1858 arrived almost a year ago that it had a different Smell to it. I thought it smelled great!! It still has a great smell to it!
