I have been looking at the Elite T quite a lot. I played one with the shallow bowl at a music store.
Here is an example:

Here is an example of an Elite 1868 for comparison:

I question if the Elite T top finish will hold up. I am no expert, but it seems it could potentially chip off easily, especially along the edges of the top since there is no top binding.

I also am not sure I like the natural wood neck. It seems out of place with the rest of the guitar's motif of black and gunmetal.

Opinions?

MM,

Try to get a hold of the Mid bowl Elite T and a 2003 Collectors. Close your eyes and play both (you know what I mean). Better yet listen to another person play.

Yes, there is a cost difference but you will see some points of comparison there. You will also get to see one of my favorite "wood" models up against a radical painted over version. Feel for yourself!

Anybody else able to make the A/B?

MWoody,

I understand you completely although have not had the opportunity to do as you suggest.

If I was wealthy I would love to have a Custom Legend like Picker, but with 4 kids under 8 yrs it will probably be awhile before I make it rich.

If you look at my other recent post, subject Ovation 4861, you will get additional insight into my motivation to stay in the Tangent/Elite T/lesser $ used guitar category.

I have not compared them side by side. But I have played the T mid-depth and really liked it. I think the looks are great and wouldn't worry one bit about the finish holding up. It will show some pick scratches over time, but all black guitars do that. It will also be a bitch to keep clean of fingerprints. So what? I personally think the natural wood neck is extremely classy.

You are are rich and wealthy! You just won't have the ability to focus on your toys just yet. It may come. I see a lot of guys like me on this site that are rediscovering their gifts/curse and as the nest emptys out.

It's all Ice Cream.

the maple neck is very nice it has a great feel and is very stable.
the finish will last if you take care of it. It is very thin, but you can have a maserati park it in the 7/11 piggly wiggly etc and it can get dinged

in an act of shameless self promotion i have a couple of elite t demos on my website for sale. they are rather reasonable.

Personal opinion? Get an Elite T from Al. Get the mid depth bowl and get it in grey. The neck looks better with it. Great guitar, great sound plugged in or acoustic.

I own an Elite T 1778 (mid depth) and a 6778 LX. I personally like the sound of the T better. It is definitely a bit deeper and fuller. The T I have has a TRC on the headstock, does that mean it has been "LX'd"? The 6778LX is nice, but the T is sweet. The maple neck has a nice feel, and I like the OP30 better than the OP-Pro. They are both great guitars and I saw a 6778LX on ebay today for around $600. The top finish on the T is certainly more resiliant to finish damage than the gloss tops.
