I played one for a while today. Interesting. Twist a knob and you have a banjo, sitar, or a mandoline. It played okay...the controls were well laid out. The 12-string setting sounded pretty good...concidering. There must a dozen settings on it. How do you professional giggers feel about it? Just a gimmick or a trend?

I've have the 500 in my studio and I've tried the acoustic version. They're definately not a gimmick, and probably not a trend. The virtual capo & instant open tuning features are great but there's way too many compromises involved right now for this technology to threaten "real" instruments.

I play mine constantly. It's not perfect, but it gives me a wide variety of tonal options. I like to jump around in style and tone rather than looking for one signature tone, and this gives me that capability. Especially when using the Fender Cyber-Twin, which basically achieves a similar function with amps.
