I really hate being called "Dude" when my name is on my post.

As to the model number

I CAN ONLY SUPPOSE THAT THE R IS FOR ROLAND AND THE X AT THE END MEANS THAT IT'S EXPERIMENTAL. THE SERIAL NUMBER ISN'T A COMMON ONE. SO STOP YELLING AND HIT YOUR CAPS BUTTON.

We're in this together and trying to help.

Russ, the 87 is not the book guitar but the direct parent of them. The book has balony purfling on the peghead and a couple of other places. In thinking about what to put on the cover the 87 certainly came to mind but this was 8 years later so it was, "Let's go another step down this road and make it as much guitar as possible"

Not a problem Jeff. But let's put up that model number again and see if anybody's got some info on it.

Elite R768-X

Anybody?

the problem with ovation is that they are making more beautiful and desirable guitars than i can afford to have one each of. each time i cross one of my wish list i have already added 3 more. i need to join ovations anonymous amigo.

Sure glad to hear that.I have been trying to find a doctor that can help me with my G.A.S. problem. Have't seen any medications that work either. Not even GasX.

My favorite Collectors is the 2003. Simple but elegant with a nice purfling. And most of the ones I played sounded great. I believe its the first guitar to have inlayed Epps. Second to that is my Bosses 87 collectors with OUTRAGEOUS Bear claw . Doesnt even look like spruce.

OH BUT the 1983 has the best shaped necks!!!!!
W8 the 1986 is a gnarly guitar too!!! when its been shined by customer service.???

You know what I dont know what my favorite is . DANG!!!!!

Heard some nice comments on the 2003...sad that there was so many offered as FRG's.

Not sure why - too many made? Anticipation of LX?

Good for the buyer of the FRG - very nice guitar for a low price.

The 1976 C-Series was a pretty nice guitar as well.
