I found a new, yet older model Al DiMeola (1769-AD5) in a shop up here for $1400.00 with a carved bridge, and a wider band of abolone around the sound hole than the new model (1769-ADII) has. It has the older Optima pre amp though and a gloss neck. To me is looks much nicer than the newer model. My question is with all things considered, should I buy the older, fancier one with the Optima pre amp for a few hundred dollars less than the newer model that is a LITTLE plainer but has the newer OP-Pro pre amp?

Looks are important.

But, keep in mind that the new version besides having the OP-PRO preamp, which was designed with Al Di Meola's help, has a few other new, "improved" features that the older model does not have and that Al requested after playing the original model for many years, which in essence is a Custom Legend with Al's name on it.
Check the new specs at the Ovation website.

It is up to you, your budget and what you consider is more important to you, the looks of the older model, or the new features of the new one.

I am sure that both are great guitars, and unless you are touring all the time like Di Meola, you won't miss the new features of the new one if you buy the older one.

On the other hand, you will never know until you compare both in person and play them.

If your not really into black, the new model also comes in a beautiful natural finish, in fact I'm thinking of getting one of these myself.
