Black, gold signature on headstock, DEEP bowl, cutaway, OP-Pro with the lead boost (little black button on upper part of bowl.) And abalone  Basically a Custom Legend with minor engineering (slight deviation from A brace) and electronics. Hard to get my work done.

Can't compare the ADII with other current Custom Legend models but the 1779 is a mid-bowl while the 1869 is a shallow. Of note is that the ADII is the only current Custom Legend model with a deep bowl. Both are Custom Legends; w/OP-Pro (ADII has push button for solo lead-bumps output of preamp by 4dB; deep bowl; 30CM is non-cutaway, ADII is cutaway; 30CM is natural AAA bear claw spruce, ADII is black AAA spruce although natural is available; both A brace although previous news release indicated some modification of the A brace in the ADII; rosette is inlaid on ADII, raised rosette on 30CM; unsure if nut on ADII is bone, specific statement for 30CM that nut is bone; both have the binding and inlaid found on CL's; ADII has oiled walnut neck, 30CM has gloss neck. Aesthetics: Personally, the bear claw spruce is stunning; the gold signature on the black headstock of the ADII is stunning (not sure what it looks like on natural); ebony bridge on ADII, carved walnut on the 30CM; some will like the cutaway. Acoustic: My impression (and my loving but critical wife's) is that there is no comparison. The 30CM has rounder and richer tones, fuller, and more sustain. This is also true when comparing the 30CM with the deep bowl 1619 and 1669. Why? I can only suggest the bear claw spruce, possibly also the bone nut. Plugged in: Unless the 4dB solo boost is desired, both guitars are similar. Stage performing: The cutaway on the ADII may be important. Playing position would be similar as they are both deep bowl. They are both outstanding examples of work. Both could easily be the primary 6-string for a player. So, as Bill says, ice cream? Comes down to personal preference. My preference is the 30CM although I know others would take the ADII. With either one, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Also is the neck on the ADII gloss black and the CM30 oiled walnut or the other way around. An older ADII I've had my eye on (about 3-4 years old) has a carved bridge and the gloss neck.

Don't worry about getting any work done - just hire someone else to worry about it for you.

Can just the different type of spruce make that noticable a difference? Mine is in the case right here under my desk. This thread makes me want to pull it out pull it out and play right now!

(4 is natural, 5 is black) so, can reach and touch them :) as to the ADII bridge - absolutely smooth, no carving or texture. ser # 577666. the picture on Ovations site shows a carved bridge but that could be a last year's picture. so, I don't know why two 2004 guitars have diffenent bridges.

I'm thinking about buying one of them and your comments were certainly helpful. Just on the Di Meola carved bridge.I'm no expert but I think when they went to the new model with the inlayed rosette they also went for a plain ebony bridge. I haven't seen the new natural finished model but in the pictures I've seen it looks like it's got a carved stained walnut bridge like my old Custom Legend. Can anyone confirm ?

So I'm always happy when someone else on the site get another addition to their Ovation Collection. Happy Playing!
