As you read in my other post I am having some dissapointments with a Custom Legend I bought. I thought it would be my dream guitar, might still be with more testing and playing.

Part of me is thinking of doing one of 2 things.

Have Ovation put a new custom color top on my existing S771 and add inlays.

DO THEY DO THIS?

I LOVE my s771 neck and hate to part with it but if I can get my guitar to look better(dump that lousy satin top) than I would be happier, I have to send it to the factory for a serious looksy anyway.

Or

Do a custom order...a Legend in Blueburst with a neck built exactly as my S771 and with the perloid tuners and a preamp I like.

I know they said it would be like $300 for a custom color plus I'm sure it would be dough for them to duplicate a neck and replace all gold with perloid.

Seems like that is too much money though.

The custom top and inlays would be nice if they could do it.

I did a Custom order through a dealer a little over a year ago.
It was an 1858 Elite 12 String
Ovation put a Mid-Depth Bowl on it per my Request and also did the top in an 8T transparent Blue Finish.
You'll pay a little extra for custom orders, but it's worth it in the long run.
Instead of having the top change out on your existing Ovation consider ordering a model done to your specs. Bowl depth changes, Finish changes and even pre-amp changes are options you can consider.
Just a thought. Hope it helps.

I've always thought it would be cool to do a custom order. This entire year I've waited for a deep bowl LX, but there are things that could be done with an Al D model to personalize it.

How many people here on the board actually have had custom built guitars?

Paul,
How about....An ADII done with a multi-hole, AAA top, in New England Burst finish? I bet the inlays would look real nice next to that color.
