While waiting for some of the experts, try a search using the name Ultra. I have a Viper and I believe they are similar, except if I remember right the Ultra is molded plastic like the Bluebird. Then the 1317 would be an acoustic, Moosup made body with a Tak made Ovation neck. Does it have an add on heel? That's a good indicator.

I would be interested to know if the top is laminate or solid wood. Like I said it plays well and sounds good and thats the bottom line, but more knowledge of what I have would be good as well.

The 1317 was made in just one year (1984). The top is definitely laminate ... that doesn't make it bad, just different! The neck is most likely aluminum and foam (they called it Urelite), as cwk said earlier. Do you have any electronics on yours? I have purchased other Ovations over the years ... all of them purportedly better. But for some reason, the trusty ol' Ultra would be the hardest to let go. Enjoy yours!

I agree it's a keeper unplugged and is more than acceptable plugged in.The neck looks like wood, how did the foam aluminum thing work? I've been an Ovation fan since the 70's but am just getting back to my "roots" after being a Martin guy for a long time. I'd forgotten what I was missing!

MWoody, I'm from the North but I guess not that far North. We in this part of the country are very quietly saying go bucks! (Your reference to the moose thing was where I was going with my strange sense of humor)

I haven't had time to completely research the O web site but what I have searched for isn't turning up much on the 1317 Ultra. Since there are no flames yet, GO BUCKS! (we Ohioians seem to thrive on abuse!)
