Anybody know what the string gauges are used on Ovations model MC868 Mandocello ???

Also what tuning is it in???

Are they Paired, Octaved or mixed ???

Do you play "Octave" Mandolin chords ???

Where abouts of "on line" chord chart???

the standard Mandocello tuning is CGDA (an octave below mandola) with the stings tuned in unisons. Not sure of the factory installed gauges on the Ovation mandocello but something like this will work; .022 .035 .050 .075.

Because of the mandocellos longer scale length mandola & octave mandolin/mandola chord shapes can be a stretch

Hello AB,

I had one of these and found that the string guage of the factory set was a little heavy for me. I play guitar and mandolin, and the feel was more of a bass string. I actually took a 12 string set and ran Octave's on the top two sets and then ran Unison's on the bottom. Made it pretty easy to play string wise. I thought it might be easier to play than the Mando, but if you use 5th's tuning like a Mandolin, Mandola etc. you will find in a scale that long the chords are very hard to reach. The other option is for alternate tuning, and do whatever feels best. Have fun!
