I just got a used Adamas and am having trouble with the 6th gear. It won't pull the string tight, only up to a certian tension. The knob spins fine, nothing warped or bent. It feels like something is slipping. I have tried to tighten the screw at the end of the knob, but it just makes the knob harder to turn, not really affecting the tension in the string. Any suggestions? |

Here's a picture of an el-cheapie tuner to show what I mean:
If you want to try to fix it yourself, you will have to get the round cap off the back of the tuner. Sometimes if the screw is loose enough all you have to do is tap the top of the shaft and the cap will pop off. Don't hit it too hard. If you can't the cap off that way it's probably better to replace the tuner. |

Location: Keller, TX | Let me try to explain what I am seeing:
Area that is covered by the blue box is enclosed. I cannot see any of the gear mechanism.
There is a screw at the very end of the knob that is indicated by the red arrow. If I tighten this alot I can get the string in tune, but the gear is hard to turn. I don't want to tighten it so much for fear of breaking it. If I loosen this screw, the knob (black circle) comes off and the gear/shaft assembly that the knob was attached to (indicated by the blue arrow) comes out the other end of the gear assembly (opposite direction of the blue arrow.) Make sense?
I am ok, because I got it in tune now, but am afraid to tighten the screw anymore.
I have a e-mail in to Al to see what he suggests. Also having trouble with the tuner. |

Vintage Gold Tuners
I've bid on them but I'm not deeply interested.
When in doubt - change them out! Email John Budny and company at Ovation Customer service. Possibly another member willhave a replacement. My guess is that they are schallers with the 2 hole securing. Someone correct me please.
I don't see a lot that is repairable in a worn tuner. |

The all metal tuners are built in the same way. Although some have a 'D' shaped cap.
and this photo shows my finger pointing to the shaft to tap:
DON'T TAP IT HARD. If you do it will damage the tuner.
Most of the time that I've seen a tuner slipping it's been the screw holding the gear to the string shaft that's gotten loose and allowing the gear to tilt. |

Location: Upper Left USA | I see Ttenn is now the high bidder on the tuners. Can one of the smarter Members please check and make sure I didn't send him on the wrong path? Anybody named Paul will do!
Ttenn - for the auction - don't do anything else until about 5 minuyes before the auction ends, and then bid as much as you are willing to pay for it!
Stay tuned! |

Location: Keller, TX | I may go ahead and get the gold tuners. I have a CK057 that would look nice with them. I also have an Ibanez that could use them if they don't fit the O. |
