Location: Madison, Wisconsin | Has anyone used a Sennheiser 835 mic? I'm used to using a Shure SM58 and eating it. I'm going to sing at Church next week and they have the Sennheisers. Just wondering if they need to be as close to be effective. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I agree with Al. Sure is a standard staple, but no longer 'the best.'. I use Audix for live vocals, but have used Senneiser and really like them, especially if you don't have high stage volume, they have some great vocal mics. Great instrument mics too. |

Location: Scotland | Shure lost the plot years ago, there are $30 Chinese made mics that will kill a Beta57 or 58. |

Location: NW NJ | 835 is a sweet mic - easily better than an SM58. And the 845 is even sweeter ... used 'em both - love 'em both. Dumped all my Shures. |

Location: Monroe, Ohio (Cincinnati) | Used Shure 58 for years, but our church has had Sennheiser 835s and 855s for about 3 years.
When it came time to get mics for our band we bought 6 835s.
We especially like that the 835s don't have the bassey proximity effect of the 58s. |

Johnny Carson's Microphone Fetches $50,787
1 hour, 33 minutes ago
DALLAS - An anonymous bidder snatched a piece of American TV history, offering $50,787 for the microphone that sat prominently on the desk of late-night king Johnny Carson until the 1980s.
The label on the 10-pound ribbon microphone bluntly declares: "Johnny's Mic ... Not Ed's ... Not Fred's" — a reference to announcer Ed McMahon and producer Fred DeCordova.
The microphone was saved from a trash bin two decades ago by "The Tonight Show" chief boom operator Stan Sweeney and taken out of retirement Friday to make the final session of a two-day auction of entertainment memorabilia.
Carson, who died in January at age 79, was "The Tonight Show" host from 1962 to 1992, when he retired. He began using the microphone in the late 1960s.
