Hi Guys...

I've got a guitar that I'm hoping that you can help me out with... Okay, its got a bowl like a '97 Collector's. In fact, inside the bowl is the '97 Collector's sticker. But its not a 97 Collector's! The neck joins at the 14th fret, its got both 1/4 inch and XLR ports, its got a different sort of pre-amp, the headstock isn't slotted, and even the neck has a serial number that indicates that it was born in '98. So, I'm thinking that its a '98 Parlor. But I don't have any specs on the '98 Parlor to be sure. Anybody out there have a Parlor? I guess the only question would be... if it is a Parlor, then why does it have the '97 sticker inside the bowl? I contacted Kim at the Mothership, and he said that they don't put the stickers on until after the whole guitar is made. My other idea is that it may have been a custom deal. Any thoughts or ideas? I'm thinking about selling it, but want to be sure that I am accurate in my description. Thanks!!!

Can you get a picture up?

Is the bridge in the same place as the '97 Collector's? If it is, it would have a longer scale length.

I'll try to post pictures later today (I'm kinda swamped with work), but I just so happen to have a '97 Collector's to compare it to. The bridge IS in the same position as the '97. Also, I don't know if this helps or not, but the width of the fretboard at the nut is 1 7/8". Thanks for the help.

I was asking Mr.Steve a couple of weeks ago if he remembered seeing a proposed offering for a Parlor in '98. The only thing I remember was that it had a typical pre-amp.

Sounds like a '98 Parlor guitar.

Okay, so if its a '98 Parlor, any idea why it would have the '97 Collector's sticker? Could it be that they just stickered a bunch of bowls and then in '98 when they decided to make the Parlor they just grabbed the '97 bowls and went at it? Also, with this weird labelling situation I am assuming that the guitar might be hard to sell. I would think that anybody wanting a '98 Parlor would want it to be labelled correctly. Any thoughts?

Your guess may be right - they just stickered a bunch of bowls and then built '98's out of spare parts. I doubt it will effect the value of the guitar. The few '98's that I saw sold on ebay were pretty inexpensive to begin with. You could always tell the buyer it was '97 Collectors FRG. Dave

There have been two on ebay in the last couple years. I think it was said that they had bowls left from the 97 collectors and they made some with non slotted necks joined at the 14th fret and a normal preamp, not the touchy one of the 97. As I remember one went for $400? I could be wrong on that though.

I actually saw and played of these in a pawn shop last year. It is a 5741. I wrote Kim and asked him about it and he said they had a bunch of bowls left over and made these with 14 fret (no slot-head) neck, made them tabacco sunburst, gave them a OP-24E, removed the collectors tag from the case and sold them like that. It was nice, but I was short the $$$$

Yup, I'm pretty sure what I've got is the 5741 Parlor. Mine is in natural, not tobacco sunburst. It is a nice sounding guitar with the '97 top and bowl, and I really like having the XLR input...the neck seems a little long and heavy for the body of the guitar, however. I always feel as if I'm weighing the body down just to keep the neck up.

It seems like this was covered a while back. It was a standard practice to use up th eleft over parts Bowls, necks and such to put together the guitar, I have a catalogue at home that has a either a 97 or 98 Parlor guitar listed. Talk wa sthey just used the left-over parts to manufacture the parlor guitars. I don't recall though..they didn't offer them for very long though did they?

I think that they offered the 5741 just in 1998. Perhaps they used up all the parts in one year. That seemingly would make the guitar kind of rare and maybe worth something. It sounds awesome, but IMHO its a little weird to play because of the longer neck and the small bowl. I always feel like I'm extending my arm out to shake somebody's hand in order to make those chords on the upper frets. The '97 Collector's has a much better feel for me.
