Location: Peoria, Illinois | I have now had a chance to really check out my new 1777 Legend LX. My first Ovation was a Standard Balladeer, and since I am not playing plugged in much any more, I was looking for a fuller sound unplugged. So I returned the Balladeer and ordered the LX Legend.
The LX features are very nice. I hate to admit that I like some eye candy, and this Legend has that in spades. But the tone difference is what is really important, and I feel I made the right choice here. I have spent some time getting it set up, and what I really like is the way you can get to the shims under the saddle with little fuss. Between changing out the shims and some truss rod tweaks, this guitar can be customized in no time to suite whatever needs you might have.
It is beautifully constructed, I like the thickness of the neck, and, so far, the gloss finish on the neck is not a problem for me.
I am anxious to check out a 12-string LX Legend next week at my local GC. If it is as nice as this, I see another GAS attack comming.
These Ovations are really cool and different from my "all wood" guitars. I love them also, but there is something about the Ovation that I really like. I would post some pictures, but I have yet to enter the digital camera universe. |

Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | I've had my 1777LX for about a year now, and it has not lost its luster, actually it is my main acoustic. Ovations are relatively easy to adjust the settings to your own preferance. I got mine set perfect. The roundness of the neck took a little getting used to. I've compared the unplugged sound to my all wood guitars, and it actually sounds louder. One thing you'll find on the LX is how balanced the sound is. The notes played on the upper frets will sound as rich as the notes played on the lower frets. This is an area where Ovations surpass over the all wood guitars.

Location: Peoria, Illinois | Even better with fresh strings! I just replaced the original strings with a fresh set of D'Addario EXP11 80/20 Bronze. I never realize just how dead the original strings can be, just from age and exposure alone.
The 80/20's sound really nice on the Legend. I usually use phosphor bronze, but had these on hand and used them. |
