I PUT PICTURES ON AUCTION THAT I THOUGHT WOULD SHOW HOW LITTLE IT WAS PLAYED. I GUESS PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE MOST WEAR WILL SHOW UP. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE BRIDGE- - THE NECK AND FRET BOARD. THE BRIDGE USUALLY SHOWS WEAR FIRST - THAN THE FRETS ANY ADVISE ON THIS ITEM WOULD BE GOOD.

Where in the UP are you located? I have fond memories of Copper Harbor as a youngster (visits, not residence). But, my favorite spot in the UP has to be Cut River Bridge on US2. Or maybe that sign that says, 'Enga-ring-a-dinga-dine --->'. ;) Good luck with the sale! EDIT: If anyone is interested, I believe mjk's auction can be found here.

Good luck with your listing. These guitars are never valued as much as they deserve, a guitar built to their quality today would list for thousands. Bailey

I know it went to a good home and it's being well taken care of and all that. But, sometimes I sit, playing one of the other guitars and wonder how it's doing.

I got it on trade for a Gibson 175 when I lived in Hinckley Mn. I had a music store in town there. I played at a club for 15 years there. I started the store to get out of the house during the day. My wife sang and played guitar with me - so we needeed some time apart during the the day - I think it is in excellent shape for as old as it is.

The first ones sold fairly well but with a limited number of Ovation buyers, the flood of Vipers has probably driven interest (and pricing) down.

This model is a standard unit in geat shape and may net about $375 I believe. Your pictures are pretty good and your overall auction looks good. The Vipers haven't hit their appreciation point yet like the Deacons and Breadwinners seem to have.

I see there is one from England and they want over $900.00 It say used - it also looks good. The girl that traded this in paid over $400.00. There was a sales slip in it but I must of took it out. I wish I hadn't

Joined: March 2004 Posts: 16 Location: High Point, NC. | Back in Feb of 04 when I made up my mind to start learning to play guitar...again, I started looking around some of the local shops. I found lots of junk, some used Gibbys and Finkers, but nothing like the Ovation Deacon that I owned as a much younger man. My wife had been messing around on ebay getting grandbaby stuff and told me to check it out. The first guitar I bought was a solid body Viper. I never knew that Ovation made any other solids besides the Deacon. It was exactly like the fella said it was.Natural finish on the body and neck, maple I think, chrome hardware and after a good cleaning ,some pot spraying and new strings, I knew I had made a good buy, the only flaw was the pick guard was broken and replaced with a metal (alum.) plate just in the area of the jack. I guess at some time the cord was stepped on and pulled the jack out through the guard.I've tried to find a replacement but not having a lot of luck. The only thing odd about it is that the guard does not have the word Viper on it, like all of the others that I've seen. BTW I paid just a hair over 300 for it. A local shop has one hanging up on consignment with a tag of 400, but it's been hanging for a couple of years. I have to admit that your sunburst is really nice, and I'm not a sunburst fan.

Otherwise, you can try Chandler (the Project Viper I had was graced with a Chandler pickguard) at http://pickguards.us. They list 'em for about $30 or so.

A while back the factory still had some pick gaurds for the Viper, you migh check with them, they weren't too expensive. Bailey

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 15682 Location: SoCal | Actually, the early Vipers did say "VIPER" on the p/g, the later ones, as well as the ones you can buy from Ovation don't have it. My 75 Viper had it until I stepped on the cord and destroyed the p/g. Now, with the replacement I bought from Ovation, it doesn't.

Practice NEVER hooking directly into the jack. PM - Would a wood faced replacement work for you? I just ebayed this material: Intence!!! Walnut
