Location: UK - Canterbury Kent | Having had the 6 string 1778-BCB-LX since May 2004, I am thinking of buying a 12 string LX from the USA.
Your advise on all the diferent models would be gratefully received.
Has anyone in the UK shipped in from the States. Was it easy, did you have any damage or problems.

My personal hold out is for a Custom Elite LX 12! |

I have a 1989 model 1758 Elite. Most any of the Elite models will sound awesome. I've never played an Adamas but judging from what others in the club have said, it would be unbelieveable.
Remember Don't test dive a Mercedes if you have a Chevrolet budget. |

Is there something about the custom Legend that makes it sound better acoustically? I thought the differences were aesthetic.

Location: SoCal | obviously, a center hole v. elite is going to have some differences.
My 1118 Glen Campbell (1981) slothead plays similar to my previous 1158 and my two 1658's. GC is that nice.
As far as a CL comparison with a Legend or Balladeer, with or without the abalone and carved bridge - CL excells. Not sure what the actual bracing is on the Legend and Balladeer (Ovation says "Ovation".) The GC and the CL's are fan. Combine that with the deep bowl and AAA spruce - my biased opinion is that the CL is the better.
Course, I love abalone. However, anyone that has played the 1776 Patriot (Custom Legend without the abalone) loves it as I do so can't be my total bias to flash.
Personally, the 1537 is great, 2001 Collector's, my three Adamas I 1687's, Adamas I 12str, Millennium, SMT, and the Adamas II...however, in general, I prefer the center hole.
As to the mid-bowl 6759 - overall as acoustic or a/e - 6759 is it...newer preamp, super performer. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I think it comes done to this, tell these wankers what you want and what the price range is and turn them loose to find you the prefect guitar. If it doesn't work it's not your fault. You pay for the guitar and their comission is a beer or two. Piers, someone from here must be able to help eith this.... |

Location: SoCal | Piers...bottom line is that I haven't played ANY US Ovation that I didn't like. IMHO, they are all superior. From the 1968 shiny bowl to the Pacemaker to the Custom Legend...you can't do wrong.
Ovation excels in strength of neck, playability, and voice. |

As far as price goes, I would have thought between $ 1000 to $ 1500 would be what I would want to spend, maybe a bit more. That amount is probably based on what we have to pay here in UK to get a quality guitar.
I bought a USA made Telecaster for nearly half the UK price in MA last year. I also paid £ 1350, being about $ 2430 for my 1778-BCB-LX, which shows you how expensive USA made guitars are here in the UK. I suspect I could buy the same model in the USA for half the UK price, + duty and transport costs. Wen I bought the LX, I did not know of the OFC.
There are many cheap (12 string)imports available in the UK and prices start around £ 200 ($360), but they are all Chinese or Korean made.
They just don't sound right and have no residual value.
