Anybody know? I never knew until last night when I was looking through the history pages of the website

Adamas is Latin for "Diamond in the native form of carbon". What a perfect name for an Adamas! And you know, these guitars really are "diamonds in the rough". Nobody gives O's or Adamii any credit for being as great as we all know them to be. I am waiting for Al to send me my U681T, and man I can't wait! The word Adamas would also be a great name for a new product my company is about to introduce. The product is a "Diamond" articulation for total hip protheses. It is actually diamond in its native form of carbon that is molecularly bonded to a cobalt substrate. We just introduced another product named "Novation" and almost called "Ovation". I am finding myself about to thin out all of my guitars and make room for the 12 fret, an LX, and some form of beater and be done. Of all the gigging guitars I have had, I love the Ovations the best. Perfect for playing on stage and now with the LX, they sound awesome unplugged as well. I am pretty stoked about the 12 fretter. :p :p

Everytime I hear or read Adamas, I think of Lorne Green on Battlestar Craplactica (the original TV series).

Ok...I've seen it just one too many times to keep quiet any longer - at the risk of being the club's equivalent of a Taylor, who the heck is Al?

He was the little known guy (Luthier) many moons ago at The Ovation Factory in New hartford that invented a revolutionary new guitar. But since he was opinionated and pissed everyone off and thought very highly of himself he was referred to as "A Damn Ass" by his fellow co-workers. Sometime later he was offered a higher paying job as a sought after Luthier at Martin Guitars with moving expenses he left. But Ovation had this new guitar they had to come up with a name for. So, in honor of this wayward Luthier they shortened and combined it to "Adamas" as a name for this new guitar they would market. Hope this answers your question! : )

Who is Al?????????? Ya know that is a good question. Not an easy one to answer in words. He is usually explained through Wailing, Moaning & Screams!

I guess each of us have our own interpretation of "WHO" or "WHAT" Al is???????

For me it is a man who, no one actually likes but, is always open for business, Day or Night Weekends or Holidays, and who somehow seems to find, and offer for sale, some of the finest American Made Guitars by Ovation, Gibson, Hamer, Fender, Etc. Etc............. so we put-up with him.

He is also a guy who is filled with information on, not only your particular purchase but, any aspect of Guitar playing or Music in general and is willing to share it all.......... even if you don't want to know or hear any of it!

He is also a guy who takes a good thrashing on this site when he has to tell us kids to settle down with the damned language. But we seldom listen to his tyranical ratings anyway.

He ,for me, is also the guy who takes all my extra money and most of the rest as well. God I am so broke because of this guy!

I have never met Al yet but he is the nicest guy you will never meet!........... Right!

And if your really not familiar with him click on the Lost Art & Vintage Instruments site (the links to it are everywhere!!!!) and take a look at his wares. He's always trying to pawn some old beat up guitar !

And if you want the real story about Al click on the Baron Audio link and ask Miles about Al! This poor bastard is stuck in a business deal with him that just won't die!

Forgive me Al I don't mean one bit of this!

That Sg is one nice Guitar Man! Thanks Randy

Don't forget, it's not just about guitars...
Be sure to inquire about his cases, too.

Adamas is the Greek word from which the English diamond is taken. It means something along the lines of 'inconquerable'.
