Hi All,
I've just purchased on ebay ( Australia) a 1985 Collectors Ed. 12 string.Wow..a lovely guitar ! And my first Ovation. The internal battery case was removed, leaving only the two (positive & negative) wires - the Pre Amp (OP 24)is, however, completely intact( although of course doesn't work !).Where was the battery housed on this model ? What is the small hole about 1.5" on the upper bout, in line with the pre amp for ? Any other information on this model would be MUCH appreciated.Thanks.

Welcome Gustav,

A screw goes through the hole and secures the battery holder inside the bowl.
The battery holder and screw should be easy parts to order or maybe find used from another member.

Hi Noah,& thanks for the advice.Anyone with such a part to sell? Nothing here in downtown Australia that I've found yet.Do you know whether the OP 24 Pre Amp is well respected in Ovation circles,or would it be a thought to see if I can get the OP 30 fitted ? Maybe take away the "Collector" value ? Love the ultra slim body -very comfortable to play seated,& I haven't even heard it plugged in yet ( due to lack of battery holder). The Autumn Burst color & multi sound holes are a treat !

Gustav,
Welcome aboard. You might want to post this request in the Sell/ Trade section as well. It might get more hits there.

Gustav, once you locate the parts it should be an easy repair. Installing an OP30, or better, will cost you a bundle and isn't really worth it in my opinion.

You can't retrofit an OP30 or above to an OP24 fitted guitar without replacing the bowl or doing major refinishing work on the bowl. They are different shapes and different sizes. I don't think the factory even does them.

What you can do is put an external battery door on your guitar so you won't have to go in thru the rear hatch to change batteries. I would highly recommend that.

Some of these had the battery on the back of the preamp box. This isn't one though, it was in that little hole. It was a quarter turn fastener that held it in. The factory has those in stock I would think.
