For the last year, I have used D'Addario EXP 16 strings - Light Phosphor Bronze. In the UK, they sell at £ 13.99, that is $26.58 at my local music shop in Kent. I change them when the sound goes dull.

I bought a set of RotoSound Country Gold Phosphor Bronze, Light 11 gauge and boy have I seen the light. These retail at £5.50, that is $ 10.45.

But the price is not the real issue, it is the improved playability and sound. On my 1778-LX-BCB, I have already removed all the shims under the bridge and I still felt that the action was still too high. It became uncomfortable to play for longer than an hour.

These Country Gold strings have a centre core string, with the outer string wound over it, but just before the bridge end, the outer winding ends, so the inner stings sit lower on the bridge and all of a sudden, it plays like it should.

Have I been missing something here.

I feel the same way about Rotosound Silk n' Steel. And they are made in Kent. Sevenoaks to be precise. Approx 14 miles from this keyboard.

We could have a "South East" OFC TOUR, but only if Michelle comes. I mean only if Michelle can "visit with us". Just so's everybody understands.

". . I will go metric the day cliff cuts his hair . ."

In my job, I start by designing structures in AutoCAD in 3D.
Eveything on the X and Y axis (horizontally) is drawn in meters (or "metres" if we're being "proper").
Everything on the Z axis (vertically) is done in feet and inches.
I keep my hair long so that I don't have to reach so far to pull it out . . . .

What do you think about Martin Silk & Steel M130...comparable to the Rotosound strings?

I only got as far as the rotosounds and never felt the need to try any others - although from previous threads I don't think that all "silk'nsteels" are made the same way.

The rotosounds are made the same way as classicals, but over a wire core - with plain piano string top B and E. They are intended solely for finger picking.

I long ago realised that you just have to try them for yourself and find what makes you say "this is the one".

There isn't a sinbgle bronze or phosphor bronze string in this house - but there are 3 acoustic guitars.

You pays your money and you takes your choice...
