Location: Parrish, FL | What, besides our posterior, do you set on when playing? I've tried a kitchen chair, desk chair, and bar stool. The most comfortable is the drummers stool available where I take my lessons.
I play with the guitar on my left knee (right handed) and have to keep my left foot extended in order to have the instrument at the right height.
Haven't tried a strap yet.
Any suggestions?

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Roc-N-Soc Stools. I have one that is a barstool height (seat shaped like a harley seat) and an adjustable one with a back rest (same style seat).
Incredible comfort and at a decent but not great price. |

Location: NC | I office swivel chair that you can adjust height. I have seen those fancy swivel chairs at the music store and will probably get one someday.................not bad prices and are comfortable! |

And yeah, the focusing thing became more important when bifocals became a harsh reality. |

Location: SoCal | I used to sit on a high stool. Now I stand. Better for singing and when I can move with the music, better for playing. And instead of wearing the bifocals, I wear my old reading glasses, which I use for the computer. Good for the medium range. |

Location: New Orleans | I cut the legs down to a good height for me on a thickly cushioned swivel stool but last week I 'lay-awayed' a Mushroom Chair from Walmart...LoL...it looked like it might be perfect to relax in while you play because you can lean back at the same time! Im going get that chair out TODAY.

Location: Texas | I usually sit on the commode, since that is the only place my wife will let me practice. It's really not bad. The acoustics are great, and it's not that far from the house. |

Location: Monroe, Ohio (Cincinnati) | Used to play sitting, usually on a porch step in the summer. Got uncomfortable and hurt my back after awhile. Learned to play standing. Now I almost always play standing.
For anyone who only plays sitting, you might want to play standing some also. It was definitely different for me and took some time to get used to playing standing.
Also, is very hard to play praise music sitting. Can't move enough! |

Location: SE Michigan | Buessailor, you must be from south of the Mason-Dixon line. I looked at your post and wasnt sure what you were talking about. Up here in the cold white north we "sit" on chairs, we never "set", sets are groups of songs we do. OK, Enough of the English lesson.
I almost always stand during performances, better singing and it seems more professional. You can also move around and shake off a bit of that nervous energy. But for casual jamming I like most any normal height chair without arms, but I prefer one with a back. My favorite place to practice (in good weather) is a garden bench out on my patio. |

Location: Parrish, FL | LOL.... Yes, I'm now in the south, born and raised a Yankee though. Had to look back to see whatI had written. I have to claim a typo on this, but it could also be attributed to present location.
Anyway, thanks for all your responses. I guess I'll have to start playing standing up. As mentioned in my origional post, I play on my left knee to ease the transition to standing.
