In which direction are you supposed to wind the strings onto the peg in a slothead? Should they we wound toward the outside or toward the inside? I thought they were supposed to be wound toward the outside as that is how my U681T came from the factory, but in checking out the "wanted country artist" thread, the photo's show that one wound toward the inside. Does it matter?

I don't think it really matters. On my Country Artist, the two E strings are wound towards the outside, and the rest of the strings toward the inside. All that really matters, I believe, is that the strings are bunched up past the nut.

It should be towards the outside, so the strings don't touch any part of the headstock top.

On my SlotHead, as the strings come off the nut, they come REALLY close to the carved walnut trc.
I usually wind 'em whichever way takes 'em away from the trc . . .

If memory serves, I think the outermost pair are out, the same with the next pair, and the innermost are in . . . but like I said that's just for this particular guitar . . .

Towards the outside. Send me the guitar and I'll restring it for you. Shouldn't take more than a few months. :D

The Bi-Weekly meeting for Obsessive Compulsives meets precisely at 7p.m. every other Wednesday, starting the first Wednesday of January, every non-Leap Year. Doors close at 7:01.

The Procrastinator's Anonymous Group will meet - to be announced.

Over the Top, one wrap inside, cross over and place 3-4 wraps for #6and #5, 4-5 wraps for #3 and #4, 5-6 wraps for #1-#2. Fleet angle must pull the strings tighter to the leading string.

Or just consume some Margaritas and just Fuggetaboutit!

Well I guess that settles that... I think I'll use the MWoody techinque: "just consume some margaritas". I may just leave out the margarita mix and the ice though. Good excuse to use that "shot glass slide"... I sound so much better after a few. After everyone listening has a few that is!

On my classical I wind outwards so the string pull tends to stabilize windings against each other.

My Country Artist arrived with the strings wound outwards. So I just put new strings on the same way.

It must be the right way because it's the most awkward way - don't it always seem to go....

May I also say that I'd forgotten what a royal pain in the butt stringing a slothead is?

I don't see what the fuss is all about. I find stringing slot heads just as easy to string than flat heads. Maybe easier. The only thing that maybe takes longer is getting the old staring off. I cut them at the nut and them unwrap each one. On a flathead once you cut them they almost fall off by themselves. But the actual stringing process itself is pretty much the same time-wise (but of course looks way better on a slot). Dave
