I think the preamp on the pd is showing it's age/starting to give up or has given up.
I can get no sound from the guitar unless the tone knob is dialed all the way down to bass....anything higher than a 1 and cuts out completely.
I have tested and replaced the batteries w/new w no change. old batteries were still in the good range but not as hot as the new ones.
the volume control works fine as long as the tone is in dialed down position as described. all switching on the pickups still working ok as well as notch filter....
I know that the preamps for these are almost impossible to find in working condition... and have heard the mother ship no longer has any available..
has anyone had any luck repairing one? troubleshooting tips?
if I'm not able to repair the preamp(read have repaired), can the original pickups be wired passively?? or will they have to be replaced as well...

Big Bummer to wake up to... Oh well...

Any Help or tips appreciated...

God Bless,

Glenn

also add: with batteries out of course no sound at all so I am assuming(not necessarily correctly)that it is not a power lead/connector issue and is still an active closed circuit with batteries in.

Thanks again all for any help.

Glenn

update noon: done poking around in the trunk the trim pots still working and affecting phase and bridge p/u all other switching/controls in working order other than no tone control... but with all the other switches can still tailor it pretty well..so possibly the tone pot?... again any help at all greatly appreciated.

have to be in to work at 4 so will check with you guys after work.

Again Thanks!

Glenn

The tone control has two sections. One section is like a regular tone control, the other is in line with the signal.

The problem you're describing indicates the tone control is bad.

If you look in my gallery in the 'Electric Preamps' section, the last two schematics are for Preacher Deluxes.

Brudev,

actually was just there,

thank you and great help..

this site as always is great!! now are you saying it is the potentiometer/tone? or a separate section/channel of the circuit board?...

also as to which revision I have,

would it be identified on the board with a # or do you identify by components?

Thanks again gotta hit the shower and get ready to make the pizzas..

God Bless,

Glenn

The last schematic has a dual section volume control. Should be easy to spot.

I've also seen some minor changes to the circuit (component values).

The two sections of the tone control are R10a & R10b. The R10a section is the one that's giving you trouble.
