Location: Tennessee | I own one ... it is a very nice bass. But it is NOT an acoustic bass. For that, go here: B778 .
The Viper has a chambered mahogany body and needs to be plugged in. You can play it unplugged, but only for practice.
A black one just sold on eBay with case for $525 ... extremely underpriced for what it is, but right where the market has been pricing these over the past couple of years.
If your friend plans on playing through an amp, this is a great bass. |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | I also have an EAB68 - just like the one in the picture (except right-handed, unless the photo was uploaded backwards). Like stonebobbo says you have to plug it in unless your practicing...
It is actually a "chambered" body, not solid. Like the Viper 6-string: SEE THE LITTLE INSET IMAGE
One thing I appreciate about the EAB68 is how light it is. My friend and bandmate has a solid body Ibanez bass, it wears me out after playing a gig (I guess that also depends on age, too :rolleyes: ) compared to playing the Viper, easy on the back!!
I have yet to hear a totally "acoustic" bass that can be played in an informal setting and not be plugged in and heard. EXCEPT one time around the campfires at the Kerrvile Folk Festival this guy walked up with this HUGE acoustic bass, more like the mariachi guitarron Lone Star Guitars Guitarron (
which I've tried to play, but didn't have the knack, you pluck two notes at a time....)
The guy at Kerrville had his bass custom made and he was a VERY large guy, too!!!
