The 20th of this month was mom's b-day and even though its been years I sometimes wonder what I'd do if there was no music to help get thru sometimes. Took me about 2 years to finally complete this song cause there was so damn much I wanted to say but how do ya condense it into a 5 min. song? Lyrics were co-written with the vocalist and the music and arrangement is all me. All acoustics are the Adamas 1 (about 6 tracks layered)and the leads are a Fender Strat.Funny cause the only thing thats real is the guitars and vox.Everything else was played on a midi sequencer ;) . Your hard word certainly paid off. I can tell that a lot of love and care went into this song. What a great tribute to your Mother. She must have been a wonderful person. |

Location: closely held secret | Sleepy Eyes. Very nice job! I know how much time & work goes into quality midi music production, and you've done an outstanding job. Very professional, great mixing and mastering.
So, my questions: Is this a 'home' job? If so, may I ask which sequencer and synths you use? And did you do the recording, mixing and mastering yourself?

Location: N.J. | Wow! Didnt expect such a nice reply :) Thank you everyone for your kind words. In response to Bluebirds question I guess the easiest way to explain a midi sequencer is if you imagine your P.C.{with the right software} having hundreds of sounds stored in it.drums,Bass,Piano,Brass,etc.
With just a cheap keyboard its possible to play parts that you would think were done by a real Orchestra.Obviously the better the sounds the more $$$ and these programs can run up to about $10k for a whole library.You can also do whats called "Step write" which will let you write measure by measure if you need to and store to your P.C.{in this case} .Thats a very "Caveman" :eek: basic explanation because you can actually use midi for a whole variety of apps.Dont have any links but Google would be your friend on that. Hope that helped a little. |

first thanks again for the kind words.In response to your question this was done at my buddy's home studio on a 24 track 2 inch machine.
I cant remember offhand which type of synth he used for the sequenceing but the piano playing was done real time. Drums,bass and everything else was step written but went very fast. Recording was pretty basic as it was only myself and the vox and my buddy engineering.We finished all the basic tracks in about a day,the main lead was 2 takes and the end lead was improv.Final mix was about 2hrs maybe? Never did any type of mastering on it. Just ran it thru a pair of old tube compressors during mixdown.Thats how it kind of has that "mastered" sound to it already. I have a 16 track digital studio and they are a must . also have a 16 track 2 inch ,but the things the size of a pizza oven! :D If you want any more info just give me a shout. ;) |
