I'm wondering if, without serial number infomation, there is any way to guess, with some degree of certainty, what year this O was made? Or is this simply a caveat emptor situation? You pays your money, you gets your cards.

Pick your highest and bid. Let the market see if it should be yours. Then send it to the factory for a neck refinish. For bracing - send the Seller a pic taken from Dave's www.Ovationgallery.com with the bracing patterns and see what he has. Can I be the Pickguard Nit-picker?

There was a short thread on that model that I started awhile ago because I was looking at one at GC and couldn't find the model on the Ovation website. It's still at GC and they are still asking $600 for a well used model. I haven't seen the guy I talked to about it to tell him I got a Custom Balladeer for $225.

I can't believe they did that....it's still a nice guitar, but the 2-piece neck is really cheap-looking for that level of guitar. Especially when the regular CVT 12-string GETS the 5-piece neck. Back to the topic....this Balladeer looks like a 1974-1976, like Mike said. The deep color of the top bears that out, too, it is a touch deeper than my 1978-vintage 1617. My 1617 presumably has the dreaded VT bracing, but I am fine with it. I played a newer 1677 today in a used instrument shop that I wouldn't trade it for. I'd get ready to go to $200 or above to get it....you're bidding against a newbie....he may go HIGH to get it....a common newbie trait. Roger

Difficult to believe that such a high-end model didn't get the works - even my humble Country Artist has the full 5.

Joined: July 2003 Posts: 1922 Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I just looked at a used ME 12-string on Elderly's site....didn't realize (till NOW) that the 2-piece neck is WALNUT(like Paul mentioned for the Adamas I).....it doesn't say that anywhere in the documentation for the guitar. Of course, a 2-piece walnut neck is plenty strong.....and not a weaker neck than the 5-piece. I'd still prefer the 5-piece for appearance, though, myself. Roger
