The last time this topic went by, I seem to remember that the consenses was that the A bracing wasn't widly used until the early 80's. I couldn't remember if that was across the board or if in a particular model. I think the discussion was about Baladeers but I couldn't find that specific thread. The one I'm considering at is for sale by flattopman2000 in sell/trade. Price is right. Blues

Joined: August 2005 Posts: 19 | This question was asked recently " have two Ovations that by the serial numbers are both 79's. My 1117 is 193xxx and my 1112 is 162xxx. I believe the 1117 is a Legend and the 1112 is a Balladeer. There is a lot of difference in their construction. I realize they are different models but I guess I would have expected them to be more similar. The 1117 has the truss rod adjustment cover at the headstock, while the 1112 is inside the body. The necks are very different, the 1112 is thicker(still great). The bowls are not only different colors but seem to be, well different. Both are fairly new to me but are becomming my main squeezes. Any light you experenenced guys can shed is appreciated." and in reply Standing ovation said.." 1117 Legend is A-braced and has AAA spruce top. Truss rod bound neck with diamond shaped inlays, gold hardware. 1112 Balladeer is X-braced and has A grade top. Has K-bar unbound neck and chrome hardware. The bowls are similar but have different neck attachment. Bowls might be different color (brown vs. black). The bowls might also appear to have a slightly different pattern to the texturing. Based on the difference in the bracing and the neck, I would expect they sound quite different." Which is also what I was told.
