Location: Isle of Man, UK | I'm in need of a Semi-Acoustic. Part of me thinks I should save for a Gretsch like this:

(ignore the colour, and also the fact that the auction looks highly dodgy - it's just an example).
However, I'd feel a little uncomfortable having a foreigner in the Ovation family when the Tornado and/or Thunderhead are out there.
After a few dry months (save one on eBay UK when I had no cash at all... swines) the need is slightly more pressing than it was. To cap it all, I now see that Mr Ovation himself has a Tornado for sale (is a trem fittable on this? Just that the one for sale doesn't have one...)
What's a boy to do? I'll hold my hand up here and confess that I've never played a semi, so I have no experience of this sort of thing. The option is either save for the Gretsch version, or wait for an O to come up.
Thoughts?

I would pick the one that best suits my needs, and at a decent price, regardless of brand name.
The auction is highly suspicious, as the seller has no feedback, and that's a popular Gretsch model.
I just recently bought a Steinberger Spirit off eBay. Very nice guitar, very compact, but plays well. I have an Ovation Deacon, but it doesn't leave the house. :) |

| It has to be a Gretsch doesn't it rockabilly island boy? I have an acquaintance who plays that stuff and he has a Brian Setzer(?) model with a Fender tube amp and one of those Fender outborad reverbs. He swears its the dogs bollocks. |

Location: Australia | I'm a major Gretsch fan (I have 3).
Of course only you know what guitar is best for you.
If your a Gretsch fan and perhaps a little scared of a big hollowbody, the 6120 models are only 16" across by 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" deep.
Very compact.
Also consider the Duo Jet's. Great Gretsch sound in a smaller (semi) solid guitar.
BTW, if that ebay guitar is a Setzer Hot Rod then I'm Elvis.
Everything about it is wrong. Hot Rods have 2 Filtertron pickups and that thing has only one (looks like a Hi Lo Tron). The Bigsby is wrong, the toggle switch is in the wrong postion.
There's definately a reason the seller ain't showing the headstock in the pic.
It's probably an Anniversary with a respray. |

Thanks, all - I never thought about a Hamer, although the price thing is a massive catch indeed. Maybe I could ask that nice Matt Smith to bring one when he comes over! (I'm informed he'll be back on the IOM soon). I'm afraid that I don't get on with Gibsons, though. Strange, but it's just one of those things.
On a side note, it's a flippin awful auction. I wouldn't be overly suprised if it's not a Gretsch at all, never mind a Setzer 'rodded one...
Thanks for the link to that 1212. That's exactly what I'm looking for. You'll be stunned to hear that it's on my watch list now! I sense a small Bank Loan coming... (no-one tell my Mother ;-)

Well, I had to tell my mother in the end, as GAS got too hard to do the cold turkey thing on. I passed up the opportunity on the black eBay one there, only to suddenly discover one for sale privately. It was obviously meant to be.
After a few e-mails to-ing and fro-ing across the pond, and a week's shipping period, I'm very happy to be the owner of a deep Red Tornado (with Trem - bargain!) that appears to have hardly been picked up since manufacture. This evening it will be having it's Frets polished (just a little tarnish, no wear at all), and then we're ready to go.
You've only got one guess who it came from...
First outing will be August 29th. Rock and Roll! I'll try and update my gallery at some stage this evening.

Location: Isle of Man, UK | Twas the infamous MKB - amazing piece of packing for an amazing guitar. This weekend, I will be mostly... fret-polishing.
The red goes with the shades and baseball boots I usually play in, so it would seem that everyone's a winner!
Also, a very sarcastic "Thanks" to SlipKid, who has now caused the tune in my head to change from 'Mystery Train' to 'Henry Kissinger' by Monty Python. It'll be that way until lunchtime and I can put some music on!
