I had done this in the past with other guitars. The problem I encountered was the pick-up under the bridge. The bottom of the bridge was metal. How do you file down the bridge on an Ovation? Help! That means that the action can remain high when all the shims are removed. As Dave said you can re-profile the top of the saddle (only possible with the thinline, not with the OPP) but you need to be very careful, if you get it wrong you may have to replace the whole assembly, pickup and all. The best way to lower the action if all the shims are out is to have a competent tech rout the saddle slot a little deeper. It'll probably cost about the same as a replacement pickup and will be a much better fix.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 12754 Location: Boise, Idaho | Me too, Cliff. This is more my normal: I had been under our cabin, trying to fix a broken pipe, laying in mud, rocks and porcupine quills with boiling water dripping on my as I tried to solder the pipe. I think I have it done and yell up through the floor to my wife to turn the water on so I can test it. She yells back and I hear her scurrying around. I ask her if it is on and she says yes. I turn on a valve near me, wait and, to my surprise, there is no water coming from the joint I just soldered. It takes me about 30 minutes to pack up all my stuff, get off my muddy coveralls and walk back into the cabin, saying, "I hope I never have to do that again," to which my wife responds, "Good, can you turn the water on now?" After a lot of cussing and yelling, I tell her how she should have turned it on the first time and there's water spraying all over under the cabin. That's how things usually work for me. I get to try it again this weekend.
