Hi everyone! I'm brand-spanking new around here. I came across the Fan Club while searching for a new guitar. My previous Celebrity Deluxe (which I loved) was accidentally broken :( . I know, I know, they're built like tanks (as far as guitars go), but somehow it happened anyway.
Well, I'm looking for a replacement to pale the morbid memory of my previous guitar's demise. I've set my eyes on that Custom Elite C778LX, but I'm wondering how much it's worth it...
1. I've noticed a few posts in which people swore by the LX upgrades. Are they really $200's worth?
2. I've never used an XLR output jack - how much of an improvement is it?
3. Which is really better, the OP-50 or the OP-Pro?
4. Which is better, the High-Output or the Original Patented pickup?

I'd really appreciate some seasoned Ovation players' opinions on these topics.

Thanks!

if you use them...

XLR is hotter and cleaner than the 1/4. Many folks like it in the studio.

Folks will argue over the op50 v. Pro. Op 50 has hotter out.

Opp is a great pick-up...

the big questions to ask are...
1. new or used?
2. how much $$ are you able to drop?

this info helps others help you...

Have you gone down to your local dealer and tried out the LX guitars. If you like the sound and feel, go for it. I'm very happy with my LX Legend, and LX 12 String. The LX upgrades are a big improvement, in the sound and weight of the guitar. Is it worth it? For the money, you won't find a better guitar.

I have a 2005 collectors, which is much like the LX's with the ZLR jack and the new contour bowl.

I use the XLR jack through our PA at church. Really like the clean sound and the ability to use phantom power from the PA so the battery lasts longer.

A couple of gents on this board have added the XLR jack to their LX's. Can't think that the cost would be more than $150-200.

If you don't play plugged in much, the LX should be a nice choice. It all depends on what flavor you like. If price is a concern, I'd opt for one of the FRG 2005CE's or LX's...

Well, I'm aiming for a new guitar, but I'm not sure how much I'm willing to spend - if the extra $$ is worth it, I could just do a lay-away for a couple extra months. Therefore, if it's the difference between $1000 and $1500, I'm willing to make the jump if it'll actually make a significant enough difference.
Do the LX "upgrades" affect plugged-in play, or just unplugged? I'll be using the guitar exclusively plugged-in.
