Don't know exactly. Someone gave it to me because they didn't feel like fixing the bridge. Looks like a Legend 1717 possiblt.

the serial number label is a small silver decal about 2-3 inches above the oval Ovation label...

see if you can tell that the decal might have been removed..

Funny. Thanks for all the helpful information. I'm sure all your friends think you are a font of knowledge also.

Witko's USUALLY associated with VARIOUS four-letter words . . . some actually STARTING in "f" . . . but "font" isn't usually one of 'em . . .

I take it you couldn't find your s/n in the "CrackTheCode" in the Reference section.
Perhaps your guitar is an import model, thereby not listed there (US only). Does it have a label? Can you provide a pic?

I have never until now been called a "font" of knowledge. I take that as a compliment. As others have posted, your serial number looks like an import model and as such will be hard to trace much history. A good description and photos will I'm sure get some valid opinions of what you have. Welcome to the OFC

Well gee, jp, if it's a made in USA Ovation then the first place one might look, the Serial number list in the reference section of this forum, indicates that it was produced in 1977. That's about all your going to get from a serial number. If you supplied pictures of the: headstock, bridge, fret markers, preamp, tuners etc., you might get a lot more info. Rather than send in a picture though, you might consider asking another question about all the permutations and combinations of the aforementioned indentifying characteristics.

StandingO, I don't really think he was calling you a font of knowledge. I think he was being wry and ironic, bordering on the satirical. I could be wrong though.

Darn, another compliment retraction ...

If the guitar in question was made in 1997, then the models are a lot more limited than later years. It's not an elite, adamas, ultra, pinnicle, etc. Without knowing anything else, I'll take a WAG and say it's a 1612 Custom Balladeer.

JP - Does the guitar have a model number on it, on the oval label inside?

I don't have the guitar with me now, its at the shop getting worked on. I guess the drama will have to continue for a bit.

PS. I can't remember the last time I saw the word gee being used. Probably in a Cat In THE Hat book.

Just trying to set an appropriately delicate tone, lest any further perceived insult result in an increasingly acrimonious exchange. Ultimately culminating in calling out the members of the bar. A decidedly awful outcome.

Hope it worked.

Chat, in order to alleviate any political, religious, or ethnic offences, I suggest you refrain from using 'gee' in future posts.

Try 'golly' instead.

We don't want to have to get Mark involved.

And, even if you really cannot find a way to refrain from the word 'gee', we will be nevertheless absolutely insist you avoid 'whiz'.

Originally from "Jehosaphat", aka "Jumping Jehosaphat", if you care to know. This has lead to words like Gee, Phat and Hoser for our Western Canadian friends.

Can we talk about guitars now?

The things one learns at the OFC!

Gee, you're a Phat Hoser.

or

Gee, you're a Phat Hoser, who plays a Taylor!
Now there's an insult, and we're talking about guitars again. :) :)

The insult being the 'plays a Taylor' part, right?
