Location: 6 String Ranch | A while ago Old Henry sued PRS over the single cut guitar claiming that it was too close to the Les Paul design(as if!!). He won. An appellet court has reviewed the case and come down completely in favor of PRS.(as they should)
I hope this is the end of it and I hope that Paul has some way to recoup the millions Henry cost him in the legal battle. |

Location: south east Michigan | Way back...way, way back in '69 a friend had a Univox Les Paul copy. It played better than any "real" Les Paul I ever tried. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I had a Univox 335 copy back then. After some work it also played great. Wish I hadn't sold it when I bought my first Ovation, but I thought $125 for a 10 year old Univox was a lot of money. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | It's his single cutaway model. Doesn't even come close to looking like a LP but then when did Hank sue logically? Maybe Paul Reed spilled a drink on him at a NAMM show or something. |

The appellate court rejected that trademark theory out-of-hand, emphasizing Gibson’s concession in court arguments that “only an idiot” would confuse the two products at the point of sale. William Coston, PRS lawyer, observed that the decision is a vindication of PRS’ meritorious defense of unfounded allegations: “We agree with the Court and Gibson’s own counsel that “only an idiot” would be confused. Sadly, the injunction lasted too long and the court process was too long and costly, depriving consumers of the right to choose between the PRS Singlecut® and the Gibson Les Paul. We hope that Gibson will now compete in the marketplace and not use litigation to obtain unfair advantage

Location: Maryland, USA | The PRS SIngle cut doesn't look at all like a Gibson LP.
Maybe they just felt that the fact the PRS was award winning kind of made them feel like their territory was being invaded, as most RECENT (Japan doesn't make LP clones anymore) Les Paul clones aren't normally great guitars (at stock at least), and the fact that this was a good guitar that kind of looked like the Les Paul made them Henry feel agressive. |
