I wander into the local GC often and try all the guitars. Last week I went with a guitar player friend, to mess around. Into the acoustic room we go. It was Sat. and you can hear the kids in the next room blasting the "Smoke on the Water" riff on a $150. Jackson, Gothic. Anyway, I try all the Ovations on the wall, and ask him to try a few also. A discovery! I find that you can't accurately judge the sound of an O, unless you're sitting directly accross from the guitar while it's being played. This may be true for all guitars, but with the Ovation back, (non-vibration) it may be more so. You may choose a guitar because of its feel and sound, but unless you are sitting directly accross, from it being played, you can't hear the true sound and differeces in each model guitar. So, while choosing a guitar, bring a friend or have someone play it for you. You'd be surprised of the difference. I actually bought an 1868T from Al, when I had my mind set on a 1768T, at his place, after I sat across from him playing it.
