Here is a place you can get it on the web.

http://www.scicominc.com/polyethylene.htm

I think the one you need is number BB31695-PE/10. It says the ID is .062

dave...again i'll say it: you da man.

i find it interesting that so many others don't buy into the fact that the bass strings become almsot "dead" tone-wise when fed through the pinless. glad to see that someone else hears what i hear...

You could take a Q-tip with lacquer on it and coat the inside of the bridge hole so the string will slide in there more smoothly with out putting the deposits on the string. Let it dry before putting strings through there of course.....

that is the stuff..i ordered it as you suggested and FINALLY FINALLY i have heard what my 1778LX sounds like WITH ACTUAL FRESH STRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks dave, i was seriously contemplating offing this guitar and never looking back to ovations. the added crispness in sound and feel now assures that i'll have it for "ever".
any doubters out there who think their strings are "new" when restringing the pinless should try the aformentioned tubes while stringing.
thanks dave!

Isn't this string tube thing a joke? Not in the sense that it's silly, but in the sense of April's fools? Does anyone have a left handed smoke shifter?

Could be a joke. Or could be a way to improve the sound of your guitar. It's up to you. Dave

Y'know . . . if y'used TEFLON tubing, the string would pick up a Teflon COATING, and then the wood couldn't POSSIBLY get trapped in the wraps . . .

. . . 'course, that'd mean that you'd now have TEFLON trapped in the wraps . . . .

. . . . damn! . . . this "OCD-shit" really blows! . . .

I saw a goth / new age band about a month ago, the audience could've used q-tips dipped in laquer to stick in their ear holes. At least I coulda. After each song the only thing I could say was: Are they finished yet!?
