She was still happy to see me...whoever I was today. Anyway...Mom's having lunch and her table is in the back. As I walk around by the tables a lady (Ginny) stops eating and asks me why I had "Ovation" on my shirt. Now this is the dementia unit mind you....I told her it's the company that made my guitar. To which she replied, and I quote, "You musicians are all alike...aways flaunting what you got." I guess she told me! :D

Dementia, where every moment is a brand new day! My Father has entered that land. Not all visits are easy. Hang in there. BTW - My Wife is in the medical line so we have stationary and pens for Viagra, Rogain, etc.

My Mom has slipped into a much more comfortable place. The tough part for her and us was when she was aware that somthing was not right. There might be harder times to come. We'll see.

It's hard to watch your parents grow old... Regarding the comment the lady made on your shirt, you reminded me of when I would go visit my dad. I was going through chemo at the time and, of course, I lost all my hair. We decided it was better that he not know what I was going through, so I would always wear my Ovation cap whenever I'd see him. I didn't get any comments or anything, your story just sparked some bittersweet memories of my own. Hang in there, man...

I can tell my mom all the news there is to tell about my wife and family, wait 10 min. and tell it all over again. It always makes me cry a little but she's very,. very happy. My dad's a little disappointed that he can't hide his own Easter eggs yet.

She is still physically relatively active, and her mind still works, it's just that she has no memory. It was painful to see this vigorous women slowly decline, but more sorrowful to watch my mother try to cope with it. Eventually, though we've come to think of her, in a way, as a small child who lives in a special place, and we care for the best we can. Once you reach that stage its not so bad. As for the comment by the lunchmate, I don't think she even knew what she was saying. When I encounter that kind of thing I say something like I can't help you now, and move on.

He's also very hard of hearing, but refuses to do anything about it. Mom has some early stages of dimentia. She keeps repeating herself and I can't tell if she doesn't know she just said the same thing or if she is repeating it because Dad can't hear her. Both often respond nonsensically because they misunderstood what you just said. Quite a pair.

Been through all this last year. It's best to confront it with Courage and Good Cheer . . .
