Location: SoCal | For everybody here who plays live and uses a preamp with at least a 3 band setting, how do you set your sliders? There's the traditional Ovation "v" setting, but I find that this gives me too much treble, almost too much of a crystaline sound. For warmth, I put the bass up about 2/3, and the mid and treble sliders only up about 1/3.
What settings do the rest of you use? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I turn all 3 of them all the way up. Don't know why other than I never could decide whether I liked it with more or less bass, treble etc. The little midshift button was also useless, since I could never decide whether I liked it better in or out. Lately, I've had trouble deciding whether I liked them better plugged in or unplugged.

Location: NW NJ | On my OP-Pros, I turn on the AD pre-set, and then mostly leave it flat. Sometimes I have to roll off a little bass because on our church system I get really boomy bass and my sound guy isn't quick enough to figure out to roll it off a little at the board. On a rare occasion, I might boost the highs a tiny bit, but tiny is the work so it doesn't go "crystaline". |

Location: closely held secret | Same as Robbie, Paul. I always start out flat, then adjust a little for the system. I just think they (at least the OP40 & Pro) sound best set flat. If I want a little bit of crunch I'll boost the bass a touch. |

Location: NJ | I have a tendency to play more on the "bright" side. I usually start off with a pretty sharp "V" and adj hi/lo as needed. My effects pedal has a ParaEQ, so I tend to rely on that more to get a decent sound for BOTH guitars (6&12 on A/B switch) and use the sliders for minor alterations.
Like I said before, it often depends how the guitar(s) sounds in the room, and it often may depend on a particular song ("thumpy" bass, bright "strummy" sound, etc. . . .) |

I imagine it depends on which preamp you are dealing with. My Optima I played with a slight V weighted to the bass side (70% low, 70% low mid, 45% high mid, 50% treble) but would slip out of that and go to flat bypass for finger style.
My OP-Pro I leave flat for fingerstyle and punch up the mystery setting derived from Al and Mel as required for rythm/strummin'. |

It's really about the balance of sound. It you are lucky enough to bring your own amp or pre-EQ on stage (or in living room), you will have allot more flexibilty (read: the ability to help an inept sound guy fix booming bass or stale highs). Otherwise I just try to make the plugged in sound EXACTLY like the natural acoustic sound of the guitar I'm playing. Sorry if you only own an SSB :D |
