this guitar had problems with the electrics from the start. shorting out with the slightest bumps and after three trips back to the factory the warranty finally was out the window and i was stuck with a guitar that i loved to play but couldnt rely on to finish a gig... i ended up buying a 69 les paul gold top deluxe and used the ovation as a second... soon it was relegated to the case and it has sat there for too many years... i am planning on refinishing and rewiring with different pickups and bridge. i am not a purist, (obviously),i just want that sweet fast neck and super playability that i originally fell in love with. can anyone offer suggestions that could be of help with this transformation? serial # on this baby is E00600 if my memory serves... thanks for any help or ideas...

Welcome, :)
Why couldn't you resolve the electronics issue with the factory?
Ovation Service has never been the type to say, "sorry we could not fix it the last 3 times under warranty, but your warranty expired yesterday... you are on your own now".

Pipeman,

Could you be a little more descriptive on the shorting out issue. Does the output drop out, get quiet, change tone? WOuld it happen right away, eventually, predictably or just enough so you would not trust it?

Where are you located?

thanks for the welcome,
noah, the first time the guitar was sent back to the factory it was gone for a little over three months... or so i was told by the dealer from which i purchased the instrument. it is possible that he was less than honest with me in his dealings... so i only know what i was told by him... each time he had the guitar it took longer than the previous time to get it back, always assuring me that the problem was fixed and it never was... this was pretty frustrating for a 15 year old kid.
chatman, the short was an excruciating blast of noise almost like a bad cord but with very high treble mixed with a lot of static... it seemed to happen if the guitar was bumped even slightly.. as in your leg hitting the back of the guitar as you were playing... as long as i stood perfectly still it would usually be ok.. but not for a certainty.. i am currently located in west virginia...

I'd be willing to bet it never left the dealer's shop...
I'd drop Master Keller a line and see what he thinks.

Ditto on that Waskel.

The mere fact that he said it took 3 months the first time and then longer each successive time leads me to believe that the dealer put it in the back room and forgot about it. The mothership would never take months to do a simple repair. If they couldn't fix it, they would have replaced the guts.

i'd be willing to bet thats truth.... he tried to sell me a hagstrom in it's place but i wasnt that stupid... just young... anyhow it looks as if i'm pretty well lost on the guts as i went to get the pieces and it seems as though they were deemed "junk" and thrown out years ago... i have the body,,neck, rear cover plates, pickguard, knobs, bridge and a few springs and screws... looks like everything but the electrics.. ummm who is Master Keller? (sorry, but i am a newbie here)

My money says not nearly as glad as you're going to be. Welcome aboard the 'O' train.
